Chapter 4 - Kenneth
Northern United States (c. 1920)
Kenneth hails a taxi. The showing downtown will start soon, and he was two hours ahead of schedule. Many elegant pieces of furniture are being shown this day, and Kenneth knows exactly which one he wants. His great-grandfather Otto spoke of it, and showed him sketches of it. It was a writing desk. Kenneth had heard stories from his great-grandfather about the powers of the desk.
One such story considered his great-grandfather’s claim to fame: a novel he wrote while working in a factory. The job at the factory couldn’t pay the bills, so he wrote a book to make some extra money, which eventually led him into fame. The story was about two men, Fritz and Walter, who reminded Kenneth of his uncles.
