Preface
My name is Ransom. Ransom Holmes. You may not know me. You may never have heard of me, but I assure you, I exist.
Ever since I was a child, I have always believed in magic. The ability to make one fly, or to turn one’s self invisible. The power of super speed or super strength, the very thing that could take an ordinary man and make him something extraordinary.
To most, this would seem impossible, but, as it turns out, that’s my job. To make the impossible possible. But now that I became the impossible, I have done things, things that the world would see as incredible, and I continue to search for more impossibilities like me every day.
I do not do this alone, however. There are more of us out there. Neohumans, as the planet has come to call us. And together, we will continue to defend and protect the universe from dangers--human or otherwise.
But this was not always the case. There was a time, a time when I would never have done any of this. But destiny can change, fate can be altered, and sometimes, a life can change in the blink of an eye.
This is what happened to me. I don’t remember a lot of it, but that is not what matters. Because whatever I was before is no more. I have died and my new life has begun, a life I would never have chosen, but now that I have seen what I can do, one that I would never change. A life of power, influence, and responsibility. A life full of danger, and at the same time, glory. A life of great potential and great misfortune.
