Chapter Fifty Five
Pastor Herb and Diane sat alone wrapped in dilemma.
Herb looked over at the love of his life, equally concerned by the cross look on her face. “I don’t know what to do with all this. Do you?”
Diane held the offers of help out toward Herb. “What’re we to do? This is way out of my comfort zone…, but then, I guess just about everything that’s come our way this past week could claim that distinction. Yet, it seems our simple direct approach is what worked well. Simple and true, straight from the heart, for the Glory of God. All of this…, would be a circus.”
Herb twisted uncomfortably in his old chair which sounded its usual squeak of protest. “Yeah, just what we were warned about by Mary and Andy. Things turning into a circus. But what you said is exactly how I feel. Say it again, the simple heart thing.”
Diane waited a moment, reaching into her heart for what Herb was after. That’s it isn’t it? Simple and true, straight from the heart, for the Glory of God.”
Herb grabbed her hand in tight squeeze. “Yes. That’s it. I like the sound of it. We’ll use that as a slogan to keep our hearts and minds at rest in the Lord.”
Diane nodded her agreement. “Yes, and to keep us from temptation. Look at some of these. It’s so tempting to bring these on and make this a grand stage about us. But that isn’t the true story here. It isn’t ’bout us. It’s ’bout realizing that God is here. And for repentance and turning to Him in revival first in me and then the entire nation.”
Herb couldn’t speak as ideas spawned by her speech flowed through him for the next service. “Wow, Diane, you nailed it. How ’bout you give the sermon this weekend. Say just what you just said as testimony to God.” Herb felt Calm Assurance pass over him. “Yes, thank you Jesus. We found it, you know. The exact Word we’re to bring this weekend, ’cept it isn’t our words at all.
It’ll be you and what you just said, and another testimony of how God saved and used that person for His purpose and then another with the same thing, and then another. Just think how powerful that message would be if not one, but dozens stood up and proclaimed new faith in Christ.” Herb sank back in his chair with a loud squeak. “Whew, where did that all come from?”
Diane beamed as she saw the whole process that Herb outlined. “It’s simple and true, straight from the heart, for the Glory of God.”
