Chapter Sixty Five

Diane stood up with the young couple who came to her first. They’d just received Christ and from the looks of it, their marriage too. Thank you Lord. Go with these two and Heal them, in Jesus Name.

She broke free from the crowd long enough to remind Herb about the special lunch. “Honey, don’t forget to announce about the special lunch over in Tent City.”

Herb brightened at her address. “You’re right. I did forget. Ummm, is that what smells so good?”

He managed to find his way back to the mic and announce the matter. “Folks, could I get your attention again. “We have volunteers who’ve set up a barbeque lunch for all of us, including the largest assembly of homemade pies I’ve ever seen. Those of you at the front, please remain as long as you need. Thank you Jesus for all who’ve come.”

Diane wove her way back into the crowd, noticing each bowed face reaching for Jesus. Thank you Jesus. Today is the Day of Salvation.

Reaching Herb again, she noticed a big grin plastered on his face. “This is so beyond. I see the choir is helping with more than song.”

Herb nodded, his smile getting wider. “You bet. They’ll be singin’ God’ praises again before this is done. I think we’re ’bout done here, don’t you?”

“Yeah, but…, I don’t ever want this part to end. People turned to Jesus is what it’s all about.” Feeling her stomach growl, she realized how hungry she was. “That barbeque sure smells good. You ready?”

“Sure am. I have my eye on a particular deep dish peach pie.”

“Have you heard from Ralph or Elise? Last I saw them, they had a team ready on the new phone bank.”

Herb shook his head. “Nope, I’ve been so busy, I haven’t made it back in to see how that part is going. Weren’t they supposed to work in shifts?”

Diane nodded. “Yes, I think so. I’m wondering though, if it was this great out here, then I wonder what the reaction is from, you know, our new TV audience?”

Herb walked along next to her, shaking his head in awe. “Still can’t get over that. A TV audience. Right here at our little white church on the bluff. And the Lord seems to be blessing through it. You know, I’m hungry too, but now I gotta see what’s going on in there. The pie can wait.”

Herb and Diane walked into a room of activity. All twelve lines were going. He noticed Ralph who waved him over. Herb looked at Diane with his big smile returning. “This is…, better than eating. You catch up with Elise. Ralph is waving me over there.”

Ralph didn’t wait for Herb, but shouted over the noise. “We’re past three hundred saved. Can you believe it? Calls started after the second testimony. I thought these phones would be enough but folks are waiting to get through and anxious to do so. Ain’t it neat?”

Herb looked through the message cards. “Why, these people are from all over the country. I thought it would be just in state. This is beyond…, it’s…, the start of revival in America.”
