Chapter 20 - Jade

The ritual started. The old lady had me lain down on the floor with a poorly drawn pentagram. She told me to close my eyes and lay steady. She instructed me to stay still and not move a muscle. My heart was thumping so loud I could hear it. It was impossible not to move when I'm this nervous.

I expected her to draw blood from my body or have me drink some kind of demon blood but the ritual was much more simple than I thought and less revolting.

"Just close your eyes and visualize the place you want to go to" She said.

"What pla-"

"shush shush! you must not speak! concentrate! Just imagine where you want to go, who you want to be with, who you want to see. Go on" she said cutting me off.

"Breathe deeply and keep imagining" she said her voice getting a bit softer. Suddenly I heard a sound in the background. A tick-tock-tock-tock sound over and over. Either that's one broken clock or she turned on a metronome. I felt different kinds of sensations all over my body. Like some kind of electrical power surging through my veins, going all over the place from my toes to my fingertips. I felt kind of itchy and wanted to scratch an area so badly but I refrained myself from doing so.

"You may start to feel electricity, warmth or cold. Everyone has different experiences." She stayed silent for a while. The sound of the metronome was ringing in my ears getting louder and louder. Tick-Tock-Tock-Tock, Tick-Tock-Tock-Tock until suddenly... it stopped.

"but everyone... will not be able to move at this point. Go ahead, try" she said with a creepy giggle. I tried to move starting from my fingers but it was stuck to the floor, I tried to squiggle around but I can't move any part of my body except for my eyes. I slowly tried to open my eyes and could never forget what I saw for the rest of my life.

Long black arms without fingernails reaching out to my neck. A single Blue eye and a black pendant. I shouted at its sight and tried to move away but I couldn't.

"That's it! Tell me child, what do you see?" She shouted, her voice echoing as if she was miles away from me.

"Long arms, no fingernails, Blue Eye, Black Pendant!" I shouted.

"You're seeing what she's seeing. That's good. Fear not, it can't hurt you, for you are only reliving her experience. Close your eyes again." I did as she told me and closed my eyes again, I could no longer feel the dark aura I was feeling before. The metronome started to sound again tick-tock-tock-tock. Even from a distance, I could still hear it.

"You can open your eyes now and try to stand up but it will be harder for us to communicate once you do this. So make sure you ask all your questions now before you open your eyes." she said.

"What is it that I need to do, exactly?" I asked.

"Locate her."

"That's it?"

"It will not be easy, you will find several other spirits in this realm. Even your survival is at risk here."

"I'm guessing there's no turning back?"

"You can turn back now if you wish, but what about your friend?"

"Right. Don't worry, just reassuring myself. What about that thing who took her?"

"I think someone else would be there with you, assisting you."

"What? Who?"

"We haven't got much time child, open your eyes now" she insisted. Answer all my questions she said, but there's no turning back now. I opened my eyes and the sound of the metronome and her voice faded away. The place was like a distorted dark void. I stood up and looked around. When I turned to look the other way, I saw a familiar face staring back at me.

"Tyler?!" I exclaimed seeing that missing superstar right in front of me.

Stay tuned for book 2.
