Lesson #2:

The next thing that you need to know is that deaders are disgusting. They’re not just the rotten, torn, desiccated corpses you saw on the boob tube. No, they’re covered in festering sores and open, puss filled wounds, any one of which could infect you. Like Herpes. It’s not just the act of being bitten that can infect you; a scratch can do it, or sometimes- depending on the number of sores they have- a simple touch of their tepid, slimy skin to yours.

Simple precaution? Wear clothing. I know it sounds too easy to be legitimate, but it works. Socks, shoes, jeans, a long sleeved shirt...They can bite and claw at you as much as they want, but if it doesn’t touch your body- if there’s a layer of protection between their teeth and your skin- you’re pretty much okay. Sound stupid? Give it a shot. Go get a pair of Levi’s and try to bite through them. Let’s see what rips first: the denim, or your teeth. Granted, it wasn’t always pleasant. It can get pretty warm in our section of Vegas, but it’s a far cry better than the alternative.

Now, remember how I said they move in packs? Depending on where you’re located, the packs can get big; very big. Thousands, big. Simple solution?

Stay away from the fucking packs!

Seriously, these things aren’t T-1000 thinking machine Terminators. Don’t get in their line of sight, don’t give them a reason to notice you, and they’ll never know you’re there. It’s really that simple. If it’s a smaller pack- maybe a dozen or so?- I’ve found that moving in a circle works well.

I generally advise my people to go the other way, but if you ever find yourself in a jam that you can’t get out of (or in my case, don’t want to) kill them while moving backwards in a circular pattern. They’re quick, but the stupid things will just follow you like a line of ants. Make sure you always know where the lead one is, but your focal point should be on the stragglers. As you circle around you’ll draw closer to those at the tail end of the pack, and since the shortest distance between two points is a straight line those are the ones that will attack you, mostly one by one. As long as you stay on your toes and have your wits about you, you can basically pick them off one at a time and make it out in one piece.
