Day 2. 1: Gifts
Day 2.1: Gifts
“I think someone is watching me, Tarynn...” Lilian speaks into the phone, walking down the sidewalk. She grips her jacket in her free hand, her heels clicking on the cement and she tries to stay calm.
“Lilian, you’re just being paranoid... Nobody is following you, so just relax.” Tarynn responds back, trying to calm down her best friend.
Lilian gives out a soft laugh, shaking her head at her best friend’s words and she says, “I am not being paranoid, Tarynn! Didn’t you watch the News today? Supposedly someone is picking up girl’s and then...” Her voice trails off as she notices something in her peripheral vision. She looks to the left and notices that there was nobody. Frowning, she says into her phone, “I’ll talk to you later, Tay...”
“Wait! Lily, don’t hang up. Please?” Tarynn pleads on the other end, not wanting her best friend to hang up on her.
Lilian smiles faintly at her friend’s words, she says into her phone, “I’ll call you later, yeah?”
Tarynn sighs at Lilian’s words, not liking that her friend was going to hang up and she says, “Call me back right when you get on your street.”
“I promise...” Lilian says before hanging up on her friend, she puts her phone in her pocket and she walks over to where she thought she saw something move. She calls out, “Hello? Anybody there?”
Nobody responded to her, the sound of a cat yowling in the alleyway had Lilian shiver at this.
Lilian sighs a bit, raking her fingers through her dyed black hair and she walks away from the alleyway. She stops abruptly when she saw it.
A mask laid on the ground, a ribbon tied through the eye hole and something was written on the lips.
Lilian tilts her head to one side, she knelt down to examine the mask and she picks it up. She turns it over, noticing that it was velvet on the inside and she smiles faintly. She touches the silkiness of it, and she stands right back up. Lilian slips it into her bag, and she heads home.
The man hid in the shadows of the alleyway, watching the girl’s every move and he licks his lower lip. He whispers, “Sweet dreams, little doll...”
Lilian makes it home after a few minutes of delay, she pulls out her phone and she texts Tarynn that she made it home with no problem. She throws her jacket on a chair, sighing softly and she turns on the tea kettle. Lilian then walks over to her bag, and she pulls out the mask. She touches the velvet again, realizing that it smelt faintly of lavender. She liked lavender, and velvet mixed together.
She walks to the bathroom, wanting to see how it would look. She takes off the ribbon, and she stands in front of the mirror. Lilian places the mask on her face, noticing that it fit her face perfectly and she takes it off. Lilian shakes her head, and she mutters, "And why would somebody toss you out?" She sets the mask on the top of the counter and she walks out without it. Lilian hears her phone buzz, a text from Tarynn and she looks at it.
What took you so long to get home?
Lilian rolled her eyes, a smile still playing on her lips and she texts back with 'Traffic was crazy, some lunatic ran into the electric pole near Deli Market.'
The tea kettle whistles loudly in the kitchen, signaling that the water was hot enough.
Lilian sighs softly, and she turns off the heat and pours some of the water in the mug. She lets the tea steep for a bit and she reads the message from her best friend.
Was it a hot lunatic at least?
Lilian snorts at her friend's response, and she types, 'I don't know, maybe? You are weird Tay, you know that?"
