Plans for Murder Tape

Umair's POV:

I tucked my gun back in the inside waistband holster and started walking towards my car. Now it was almost pitch black. As I was about to open the door, a slight movement behind the black corolla which was parked slightly left and in front of my car caught my attention. Through that car’s windows I saw someone move slightly back and then down. I took my gun out and inaudibly moved towards the person’s location. As I moved closer I was startled to see that no one was there. I was pretty sure that I saw someone. Then it clicked in my mind.

“Smart! Still, you are dead! fucker!”

I chuckled darkly as I turned on my iPhone torch to catch the culprit hiding under the car. As I was about to bent, my phone started ringing and Aisha’s name shone on screen. I had no choice but to pick up the call as she is more important that whoever was trying to spy on me.

“You always call at the worst hours.” I said crossly.

“Hello. Do you know her?” A stranger’s voice startled me.

“Yes. Who are you? What are you doing with her phone?” I asked in an urgent but intimidating tone.

“This girl has been hurt in an accident. I have taken her to Agha Khan Hospital. Your number was the last one in her call log.”

“I am coming. Don’t bother about the money, just ensure that she gets maximum attention and proper treatment.” My voice was full of concern.

I hung up.

“Guess you are lucky. Bastard! Happy birthday” I said in a venomous tone and rushed towards my car.

Zunaira's POV:

Both me and Aliya placed our hands on our mouths to abstain ourselves from screaming.

“Smart! Still, you are dead! fucker!”

He said in a deadly tone. The surrounding was illuminated as he turned on his phone’s torch.

Shit! God please save us.

I started praying silently. My family, few friends that I have and my best memories started flashing in front of my eyes as I pictured death nearing me with every passing second.

Suddenly his phone started ringing. First, he seemed angry then his tone changed and he sounded worried.

“I am coming. Don’t bother about the money, just ensure that she gets maximum attention and proper treatment.” he said to the person on the other side of the call.

Wow! The murderer has feelings.

I thought sarcastically.

“Guess you are lucky. Bastard! Happy birthday” I shuddered at his venomous tone. I was engulfed in darkness as he turned off the torch.

The night was once again illuminated by his car’s headlights. He reversed it, turned towards the road and then he was gone. I heaved a sigh of relief. I nudged Aliya to move out from the other direction as I moved out from my side and stood up.

I would have laughed at our appearance if I was in some other situation. We were covered in silt which had stuck to our clothes, face and hair as we were damp from earlier.

“You know what I had even recited Kalima.” She ran towards me and hugged me while crying.

“Same yaar. It was a very close call but now it’s fine. He’s gone.” I patted her back.

“What do we have on tape?” I asked Aliya who released me but was still trembling,

Aliya removed silt from her camera, turned it on, found the tape and pressed the play button. The whole incident had been filmed perfectly.

“What are we going to do with this?” She inquired in a fearful tone.

“I don’t know but first we need to get out of here before he comes back.” I dragged trembling Aliya towards the beach where Fawad’s car was parked.

We saw Fawad leaning against the car.

“Let’s get out of here.” I said urgently to him.

“Where the hell were you both? You guys didn’t even have your phones.” Fawad asked irritably.

“Shut up and drive.” I said harshly as I and Aliya settled in the back seat.

“What the hell is wrong with you? Watch your tone.” Fawad replied angrily as he inserted the keys in the ignition.

I ignored him and watched out of the window. Only one thing was going through my head. I just saw an innocent girl being murdered. I had proof and I could get that guy arrested but I had no idea who he was and whether the police will be of any help or not. Usually, the police are in the pocket of such people. His attire, attitude, car and everything screams of money and power.

What if he had killed other people as well?

I cringed at this thought. I took deep breaths to calm myself and forced my brain to think of a solution but it was blank.

“Akhh” I groaned.

There was one thing for sure, I am not going to let him go unpunished. I promised myself that I will find a way to bring him to justice.

I was pulled out of my thoughts by the constant shaking of my shoulder.

“What?” I angrily asked Aliya.

“What are we going to do with the tape?” She whispered but Fawad still somehow heard her.

“What tape?” He eyed us suspiciously with his left eyebrow raised from the rear-view mirror.

“It’s nothing. Some guy forwarded her a porn video and now she’s like what should I do with it?” I came up with the most absurd explanation possible.

Aliya forgot all about the tape and stared at me with her eyes bulging and mouth hanging open.

“BLOCK HIM! BLOCK THAT GUY RIGHT NOW!” Fawad shouted angrily.

“Alright! Alright! I’ll block him. Eyes on the road. I don’t want to end up in a hospital. This day has already been quite eventful.” Aliya replied while fidgeting with embarrassment.

“Okay but STAY! AWAY! FROM! HIM!” Fawad said forcefully.

“Yeah, Yeah, I will.” Aliya replied.

“BTW we had dinner plans as well if you remember.” He forgot all about the tape and eyed me through the rearview mirror.

I didn’t have much appetite left after what I saw at the seaside wall.

“No, I am not feeling well.” I replied tiredly.

“Fine.” Fawad huffed.

We arrived home twenty minutes later.

We rushed towards my room to avoid any kind of interrogation regarding our hang out. Aliya sat down on the bed and hid her face behind her hands as she started sobbing.

“Hey! what happened?” I rushed towards her.

“Zunaira what will happen if he finds out? He had a gun. He killed that girl. He’ll kill us as well. I don’t want to die.” She shook me as she whimpered.

I hugged her but she was not calming down. I pulled her apart and stared into her eyes which were filled with dark clouds of fear.

“Aliya, listen, you need to calm down. I’ll ask Fawad to book you a ticket and you can go back to the US via the next flight. I don’t want you to get involved in my mess. I want you to be safe. He doesn’t know that it was us. Besides he most probably thinks that there was a guy so chill.” I mustered up my most courageous expression.

“Are you sure?” She whispered.

“Yes. Listen siso we can’t let this happen. An innocent person lost her life. We need to do something about it. What if it was me in place of her. What would have you done?”

“SHUT UP!!” She shrieked and punched my shoulder.

“Don’t ever say anything like this!” She hugged me forcefully.

“I was just giving an example.” I rolled my eyes at her dramatic behaviour and hugged her back.

She let go, wiped her tears and gave me a determined look.

“You are right. This person needs to be punished. BTW if he ever even touched you then I’m gonna burn him alive on a stake in the middle of Karachi like they used to do with evil witches. I’ve heard that it’s the most painful way to die.” She smirked as she imagined him burning.

“Wow. You are evil.” I slightly smiled at her idea, happy that she was no longer afraid.

She trudged towards her bags which were still piled on my study chair.

“BTW did you hit your head somewhere or what? That was the most embarrassing explanation that I have ever heard.” Aliya shouted at me as she pulled out red pyjamas and a pink tank top.

“God I can’t believe what kind of stupid pig I have as my bestie! we can’t say anything regarding this to our families. It might get them in danger as well” I retorted as I pulled out a black shalwar kameez from my cupboard.

“Yeah, I realized later that I was being stupid.” She replied sheepishly.

“Enough. We are wasting time. Let’s change quickly so that we can plan our first step.” I said as I ran in the bathroom.

“Cheater I wanted to go first, you distracted me.” Aliya shouted.

I showered and changed whilst listening to her babbling.

“I am done.” I came out while drying my hair.

“Be back in fifteen.” She ran to change.

Who takes a bath in fifteen minutes?

I shrugged and took out her camera. The hair on my neck stood up once again as I watched the tape.

Aliya came out exactly after fifteen minutes.

“So what are we going to do?” Aliya asked.

“Let’s go to the police. We’ll hand over the tape and file an FIR.” I suggested.

“And then she calls me a stupid pig.” Aliya rolled her eyes. “We don’t even know his name. We can’t just barge in the police station and file an FIR.”

“Any better suggestions?” I asked sarcastically.

“Yeah. Our first step should be to collect as much information about him as we can. We don’t even know his name.” Aliya suggested.

“I know a bit about him.” I replied sheepishly.

“HOW?” Aliya almost yelled.

I narrated her the whole incident that happened back in university.

“Why are you telling me this now and not before?” Aliya eyed me with a raised eyebrow.

“I thought it wasn’t important till now.” I shrugged.

Suddenly an idea came to my mind.

“Aliya I know how we are going to achieve our first goal.” I excitedly hugged Aliya.
