Orders

“You mean to add one more,” a stranger yet familiar voice says making me turn around to see an old captain, Kane. He was an old man that has hazel eyes. He was around his late 50s. He wears a blue suit with a blue tie with black shoes.

“Yo, its Captain Kane.” Jeremy says with a surprise tone in his voice. We salute. “Good morning, sir.” We said together.

“No, need to salute me in such matter, we are civilians after all.” He says with a smile.

“You…”

“No, Ice. I haven’t given up my position My new crew bought the ticket and force me to go with my wife. After this trip, I’ll be going back to work.” Kane crosses his arms.

“Ah, I see. Don’t worry, you will love being a civilian. No more orders from the tops.” Jeremy joked around.

“Yeah, I guess you are right. I won’t be hearing them for a long while until then. Lucky, how are you? I heard Jessica pass away a year ago. I’m sorry for your lost.”

I push my lips to the side a little as I looked down. “It’s still hard...”

He taps and shook my shoulder. “Hey, keep it together. Look at this way, you get to see her sooner or later. After this life.”

I smiled a little while my eyes water up, looked away to wipe away my tears. “Yeah, you’re right. No, use on wasting my tears. Sorry sir.”

“It’s okay. Well, sorry to ruin your day. I didn’t mean to.”

“Honey!” It was his wife that was behind him. She looks a lot younger than Kane. She has short black hair and brown eyes. She wears a little blue dress with blue high heels. “Summer, good timing, this is my use to be crew.” He says with bright smile.

She looks at us and smiles. “Nice to meet you, I’m Summer the wife of Kane. I heard much about his crew over the years. It’s finally to see some.”

“Nice to meet you. I’m Lucky, this is Jeremy, and Ice.” I point at them once more.

“Nice to meet you.” Ice says it with gratitude. Jeremy just waves as he says. “I see pictures and how this old man keeps talking about you in the old day. We used to call it, love past.” He said laughing, but it failed because no one was laughing.

The wife smiled. “He does? Aww, honey, you are a sweetheart. Wait, until tonight.” She kisses his cheek.

Well, it didn’t take long to get disgusted. Summer grabs his arm and left with him. “See you later.” He said with a smile on his face and waves as we wave back.

I looked at Ice as he noticed. “What is it, Lucky?”

“I was just wondering. If I could meet your parents?”

“Oh, sure. Let’s meet them. I think, they will find me as their son,” as Jeremy has the shining eyes.

Ice and I burst out laughing. “That’s a good one.” Ice said as he grabs his shoulders.

“Ice.” It was a little boy. He was so cute like around four years old.

Ice picks him up while saying. “Hey, little man. What are you going here?” The boy hugs him, resting his head on his shoulder. “This is my little brother. His name is Noah.”

“He is so cute, and his name goes with him.” I said with a smile.

“Who knew, my bro replaces me with a little one.” He put his hands on his head and sighs.

“Well, he isn’t my real brother. He is adopted. He looks like my mother for some odd reason that’s why they picked him.”

“Oh.” Jeremy and I said at the same time.

A woman walks next to Ice. “Ice, darling. Are you going to greet me to your friends?”

“Oh, this is my mother, Angela. My father is over there eating his favorite blueberry pancake.” Angela is a tall woman that wears black high heels and formal dress that was black. She has blue eyes and long blonde hair.

I looked and find three men eating the same thing. I notice, his mother looks like her adopted son, Noah. I shook my head and looked up to Angela. “Hello, my name is...”

“Don’t tell me. You must be Lucky. Ice has been talking about you for the past three years when he was in the Navy. Yet, I told him not to be with that...”

“Mom.” Ice says as he looks at her.

I became stunned. “He did?” It slips from my mouth as I hurry to cover my mouth fast, thinking I upset Ice. Ice cross his arms and pouts as he looks to the side.

“Yes, I was dying to meet you for a very long time, now. If I’m not mistaken, Ice told me, you and he haven’t seen each other for two year or longer.”

Removing my hands from my lips as I smiled and giggled a little. “That’s Ice. Yes, we haven’t seen each other for nearly two years. When I left, I was submitted to train and then join the war a year ago.”

“Oh, I didn’t know you joined the war. It must be traumatizing still. Oh, I’m sorry. I don’t want you to have the memories of the past.” She sounded worried.

“I’m getting over it.” I smiled weakly.

“Hey, don’t be upset, don’t think about it. Today, is a brand-new day.” Angela smiled to cheer me up.

I smiled because of her. “Thank you.”

“I’m Jeremy, the best friend of the both.” He said with a huge smile on his face.

It didn’t sound right, but I went along with it. “Yeah, he is. Shoot, I called, Ice and Jeremy like brothers. They speak at the same time.”

“Really? Yes, I heard about you too. It’s nice to meet you, Jeremy.” She crosses her arms.

“The pleasure is all mine. Madame, Kale.” He put his hand out.

“What a gentleman you are, Jeremy.” She said while shaking his hand as he kisses her hand.

“Lucky!” I turn my attention to my mother.

“It seems your mother is calling you. I would love to meet her. Ice, Noah, be good boys and wait for mother. Lucky, can you be a dear and walk me over to your mother?”

“Sure, ma’am.” Angela was sure a little weird. I walked her to my mother. They talked while my eyes landed on Ice. He was talking to Jeremy. The more I look, I remember my old feelings for him. Yet, I don’t feel the same in the past. I think about Dark is more with passion.

“Suerte!” I turn to see my mother.

“I’m sorry, sometimes, I get sidetrack.”

“I see, I happen to notice you looking at my son. I could tell you like him, don’t you?” Angela was so happy to say what she just said.

I blushed, trying not to show it while looking down. “Hija, you do? Here, I thought you like your other friend.” Mama smile got bigger. “Now, tell us.”

“No.” I said shyly.

Angela claps once and hugs me. “I can’t believe that answer.”

“Why is that?” I had to ask.

Angela clear her throat. “Yes, you see, I don’t allow my boy to be with any girl since she was after... Well, just look at my son, you’ll see what I’m talking about.” Angela turns to see them. “Honey!”

‘Oh, no. This is bad. He will find out.’ I thought to myself. I back up, ready to leave. I left hands on my shoulder. “Oh, no, you’re not leaving. Don’t worry, Angela and I are going to help.” My mom says as I heard August laughing in the background. I was worried. Ice was inches away from me with Noah in his arm. “I’ll hold him.” Angela grabs Noah.

I looked for a way out. I notice August eating his bread. I yelled at him. “August…”

“Leave your brother alone. Ice, my daughter would like to say something.” Mother said. I think my pink cheeks were a bright red.

“Are you okay?” Ice said worried.

“Yes, she is. Come on, just say it. It won’t hurt, Lucky.” Angela said.

“Sure, ah, Ice... I-I like...” My mother pushes me a little to him. “I…” Ice put his hands on my shoulder. “Just say it.” I couldn’t say that I like Dark more than him.

I blushed. “I would like to meet your father.”

I am sure my mom looked at his mother. “Okay? Sure, why not.” Ice says weirdly. He took my hand, took me to meet his dad. His dad has bold and has brown eyes. He looks around his fifties just like his wife. “Lucky this is my dad, Larry.” He wears a bottom shirt and jeans.

He turns his body around since he was in the middle of eating. Larry smiles and says. “Ah, I didn’t know Ice has friends on this boat. Nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you as well.” Out of the sudden our phone started ringing. Ice and I got out our phone and answer it.

“I’ll be back.” I walked away. “Hello, this is Lucky Malave.”

“Lucky? Finally, I track you down. I know this is the news you don’t want to hear, but we have orders. We need you back in the military. You are on a cruise or on a boat?”

“Yes, Rick. What’s going on?” I went outside.

“Well, I don’t have much time left. You are hired to protect the civilians on that boat. You have your military stuff with you?”

I looked at the blue sea, “I brought my uniform, but I don’t know that good for my metal state, but you have to explain to me why?”

He sighs. “You will be fine, think of our love ones. There’s an outbreak. Lucky, I know Captain Kane is there. Ice, Jeremy, and you must protect the Captain of the ship. If he dies, the ship will never make it to land. Also, you have every right to kill everyone that is infected.”

“What? Rick, you make no sense.” I was a little concern.

“Look, just serve and protect. People will start eating each other. It’s like zombies, but this is real.”

I looked down and saw the ocean shine. “Rick, a zombie, really? Well, I see what I could do. Thanks Rick. Find a gun, and you’ll live. I highly doubt it.” I don’t know what I was saying anymore.

“Hey, I am locked and loaded.” I heard a gunshot causing me to jump. “One wanted to come in. The base is overrun. Don’t worry. I’m going to get a boat to reach over to you. I have to go.”

“Hey, be safe.” I know he was smirking or smiling.

“I’ll be there in a few days.”

“One more thing. If we are overrun. We will stop the boat and wait for you. Sound like a plan.” I said.

“Sounds good. See you.” He hangs up.

I put my phone away and went inside. Ice, Jeremy, and Kane walked towards me.

“Everyone got the call?” Kane said.

“Yes, sir.” We said.

“We better talk in private. Follow me.” Kane walks away as we followed him.

We were alone near the play area. “It seems the base is overrun; you all know by now. We are going to protect this cruise and the people in it. We can’t disobey this order. Everyone, get ready and put on your uniform.”

“Sir. I... Maybe I have it. I’ll check around.” Jeremy says as he looks down with a very sad look on his face.

“Yeah, me too. I wasn’t expecting this.” Ice says as he crosses his arms.

“Me either. Let’s get ready and wait for our orders. We need to talk to the captain. From now on, call me Captain Kane.” He says.

We salute and said, “yes, sir!”

“Great, we meet up here soon.” He walks away.

Ice walks next to me along with Jeremy. “I’ll walk you to your room.”

“Thanks. So, you think it will happen here?”

“I don’t think so. It’s a cruise. Why would any sick or bitten person will come here out of all places?” Jeremy says and questions.

I smirked. “Maybe for treatment. You know we have a mini clinic and a mini jail.”

Ice smiled as he opens the door. “Ladies, first.”

“Thank you.” I walked in. “I should get going. You have my number?” I asked them.

“No,” Ice says. “Yeah, me either.”

I took out my phone and Ice took it, putting his phone number in my contact. “Just call me if anything.” So, did Jeremy. Ice gives my phone back to me. So, I have their numbers in my contact list.

I nod. “Bye.”

“See you soon.” Jeremy says. “Yeah, see you.” Ice and Jeremy walks out.

I waved goodbye as I walked towards the door of my room. Once inside the room. I put on my military uniform and boots. I brush my hair and put it in a bun. I put on my hat and put it on. I loaded my gun and put it in safe lock. I had everything ready and grab the handle of the door. I inhale and exhale. “God, wish me luck.” I open the door and walked out.
