Chapter 7

It felt like forever before Tyler came back, I was nervously waiting for what felt like hours. When he finally did come back, he looked fine, unlike when I was being interviewed by the same cop earlier today. He looked calm and collected like this was easy for him.

“How’d it go,” I said nervously.

“It was easy, but I think he suspects something,” he said with the upmost confidence.

“What if he keeps investing this, what if he finds the body.”

“Chase, stop overreacting, if we act like there’s nothing to hide, than there’s nothing to hide.” Tyler strolls over to me and sat down.

“But what if he comes back and starts grilling me again, you know I do well under pressure.”

“Clearly,” he said with a giggle, the he reached over to his night stand, and grabbed a rag from one of the drawers and, threw it at me. “Sweat anymore and you’ll be sitting in the tub.”

I grabbed the rag, then wiped myself down, “I’m serious,” I said while throwing the rag back at him. “ what do we do then, I barely made it last time, he obviously can tell I’m the one with the answers, I don’t want to get you or mom in trouble.”

“Chase, look at me,” Tyler then grabbed my face, and moved in so we were really close, “everything’s going to be fine.”

“But what if I accidentally let something slip, and you and mom go to jail and hate me forever.” He then moved his hand down to where he was holding mine.

“No matter what you do, I will never hate you,” he was looking at me, but not in the eyes. I get up because he was making me feel things, I’ve only ever felt for girls. I start pacing, because that’s what I do when I don’t know what to do. “Chase, why are you getting so upset.”

“What! You can’t be serious, we can be part of a murder investigation, why are you so calm?”

“Because freaking out is not going to help, you need to relax.”

“Relax, how can I-,” without any warning Tyler got up grabbed me by the by the face and kissed me. I couldn’t breath for a second. At first I was a little resistant, than it just felt right. Then for the first time in a long time, I actually did relax. He moved his hands down to my waist and I put mine around his neck. I think that turned him on a bit because the pulled me in closer, then slipped his tongue in. He started kissing my neck, then I pulled away, it was too much to fast.

He bit his lip and smiled at the floor while playing with his fingers. “What was that,” I said very confused about what just happened.

He walked over and sat back on his bed, he then started scratching his head and pushing back his hair the way he does when he doesn’t have answers, “I was trying to get you to relax.”

“But-,”

“Can we just talk about how your going to act if he comes back,” Tyler said looking nervous for the first time today.

“You mean when he comes back,” I said also changing the subject.

“IF he comes comes back, how are you going to act.”

“I don’t know, let’s practice just in case, you be the cop.”

“Okay,” he cleared his voice, then started talking in a weird British accent, which was confusing to me becuase officer Forbes didn’t have one. “When was the last time you saw your dad.”

I laughed a little, “ why are you talking like that.”

“Can you just play along,” he said also laughing.”

“Okay, okay I don’t know three years ago.”

“Are you aware that your dad is burred in the Forrest behind your school.” Tyler said continuing with his terrible accent.

“What why would you asks me that, their not going to ask me that.” I said a little freaked out.

“You never know what their going to ask, you have to stay calm no matter what, remember you have nothing to hide.” He said in a calm soothing voice.

“Fine, no I didn’t know that my dad is burred behind my school,”I said with fake confidence.

“That wasn’t very convincing.”

“Well I’m not a good liar, and you know that.”

“I think you should stay with me, like at least till this blows over.”

“What about my mom, I think she’s going to notice that I’m not home.

“I’ll text her, it’ll be fine.”

We both just sat in silence, I went over and sat on the bed, I put my head in my palm and and sighed heavily, “how did we get ourselves in to this mess.”

Tyler started rubbing my back, “you can always just not be involved, turned us in.”

“No way I would never do that to you guys, plus my mom would never forgive me.”

“Alright, so then just turn me in, that way you and your mom would stay safe.”

“No way, I would never do that to you.”

“I’ll be fine, I’m a big boy I can handle myself.”

“No it’s out of the question that’s not happening, end of discussion.”

“But Chase, this would just nip our problem in the bud.”

“I said no Tyler, that’s not happening.” I look at him closely, and held his hand, “I’m not losing you okay.”

He smiled at me and huffed, “okay, fine but just know it’s always on the table, it’ll be plan b.”

“No, it won’t.” I started getting mad, why would he give up so easily, he’s so ready to leave me, it’s only been two weeks since he’s been back. “Tyler, I want things to go back to the way they were.”

“Oh,” he said, than he took his hands and put it on his lap, and moved away from me slightly.

“No, no, no that’s not-,” Tyler’s mom then bursted through the doors.

“Hey, Chase your mom is downstairs, she said it’s urgent.”

I looked at Tyler, then got up and walked out.

When I saw my mom she looked very hectic, like she just got out of bed and then jumped off a building. “Mom what’s going on.”

Without any hesitation, she grabbed my arm and and started dragging me to the car, “where leaving, now!”
