Chapter two - Falling apart

After school, Maddy went to her drama club.

“Hey guys, where is Ms. Glamour?

“Hey, Maddie! She should come soon”

“Good morning, weirdos!” a voice spoke. The teens recognized her phrase and smiled. At their first class with her, everyone was shocked when she first called them like that, but then she said that if they don’t do weird things, they shouldn’t be there. She explained that being weird is actually normal, and the ones that try to maintain the perfect image, are the ones scared of society and they should be proud that they are who they are. Yes, great speech for the first lesson.

“Good afternoon, miss!”

“Oh yeah, I forgot...the morning passed so fast...”

Evening came and Maddison arrived home. She looked for her family, but there was no sign of them. She entered the living room and turned on the TV. She felt her eyes slowly closing and after some time she fell asleep. She woke up at the sound of a knock on the door. She looked at the time - it was one pm. She went to open the door, but when she looked through the door sight she saw it was the police.

“Hi, are you Maddison Wolf?” the man in the suit asked.

“Yes. Why are you here?” she asked, looking at the two police officers from the back.

“I’m detective White. We have to talk, can I come in?”

“Alright, come in.” she said, widening the door.

The man wasn’t too tall, but he was clearly in shape. He had slender blue eyes and his hair was cut in military-style.

“Do you know something about your parents?”

“So you haven’t heard from them?”

“Yes, I thought you are here...”

“I’m here to tell you that you brother committed suicide”

Maddy got up, with a confused expression on her face, like he spoke in a different language.

“I’m sorry for your lost” said the detective and looked intensely at the girl, waiting for her reaction.

Maddy frowned in disbelief and with a trembling voice she said: “That can’t be true, it must be a mistake...”

“No, it’s not true, it must be someone else...Wolf is a common name...”

“Maddison, you need to calm down, it’s him...”
“Show...show me the photos!” she said with a demanding voice.

“What photos?”

“You have photo...with...with the crime scene. If it’s him, I wanna see them!”

The detective knew that it’s the only way she would believe him, so he pulled out of his bag a file, and handed it.

Maddy saw his brother...hanging...he hanged himself to the rallying of a friends house when he wasn’t home. Her hand started trembling and her eyes filled with tears. She turned around and looked at the window. She tried to say something, but the words won’t come out...her skin got goosebumps. She hated crying in front of others, but in that moment she didn’t care...her little paradise was falling apart...her brother...her rollemodel...no, it couldn’t be true...

Maddy tried to take deep breathe, but it seemed like the air wasn’t enough. She couldn’t hold back the tear, so she let them roll down her cheeks.

“I know it’s hard, but you would help me a lot if you could answer me some questions”, he gently said, but Maddy didn’t answer, so he had to be content with her nodding.

“Why do you think he would want to end his life?”

Maddy froze. She was so shocked about his death that she didn’t realize that he committed suicide. Trying to control her voice, she responded with a dead voice: “He was murdered”

“What makes you think that?” asked cautious the detective.

“You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t think that as well, am I right?”

“It’s true that the circumstances of Dave’s death made me suspicious, but I want to know how he was like as a person.”

Maddy took a deep breath.

“He is...he...was a social butterfly, liked and admired by a lot of people. He loved himself and he loved being in the spotlight...who could blame him, he was a natural leader.”

“Were you ever jealous of him?”

“Are you seriously asking me this? What, am I a suspect now?” she asked in shock and anger.

“Look, Maddy, I know it’s hard for you, but I’m only doing my job”.

Maddison dried her eyes with her hands and sat down, feeling suddenly tired.

“He was an inspiring person, and I love him...loved him. No one that knew him would have hurt Dave. And under no circumstance, he would have ended his life...he just got a girlfriend yesterday...

"Then..." he started.

"It must be a murder" Maddy completed him.

"Maddison, please, take this." said the detective, handing her a note. "Call me at this number when your parents came home. If they don't, also call me. I'm here to help, remember".

Maddy nodded and imidate after the police officers and Det.White left, she burst into tears. She was left alone with her thoughts...without her brother. The cold started to go inside her, and as she laid down on the couch, she realized that it wasn't a dream. It was reality. Her brother was dead, and she couldn't do anything about it. Her parents were missing...they never been away at this time, and their phones don't work. She was alone... Who was the monster that took away Dave? <Who was he?!> she kept asking herself. Was it her fault? What if she skipped drama class that day and got home and watched a movie with him? Dave wouldn't have been dead then.... <No, no Maddy, this isn't your fault> she kept repeating it and crying until she finally fell asleep. She woke up around 12, but no sign of her parents. She stood up, feeling dizzy, and realized that the only way she could accept it was to find the killer, the so-called human that murdered him, and framed a suicide. Maddy was alone, but she promised herself that she will never give up until she sees that person being punished with a death sentence.
