Prologue
Prologue.
“Alex are you sure now is the right time?” Taylor asked.
“Of course, I am Taylor, don’t worry” Alex replied
“Can’t we do this some other day?”
“No”
“Fine” Taylor gave in.
There was silence after that, for what felt like an hour, no one dared to speak. Rethinking their strategies and checking old crumbled maps was best they could do.
Alex short for Alexander was a sixteen-year-old boy a year older than Taylor he was known for his brave yet aggressive personality. He had befriended Taylor in school when she had shown interest in joining the ‘outcasts’. Taylor, on the other hand, seemed rather passive and stayed low not drawing much attention towards herself. Her weakness, however, was her anger which rarely left its den but when it did it was stronger and more dangerous than any other emotion.
The dark hour had begun, the bats had ventured for the night, everything was quite let alone the distant calls of the nocturnal animal.
Taylor was agitated her anxiety growing by the minute her anger threatening to leave its den. Palms balled into fists her nails digging in her flesh until they were stained of blood. Realizing her mistake, she let her hands drop and sighed, ‘this would make her easier to spot, vampires had a great sense of smell’ she thought.
Finally daring to break the long-lasting silence, she spoke up “How long?” she asked.
“Soon” replied Alex “Now stay quiet we don’t want to draw attention.”
Taylor obeyed silently. There was nothing she could do about it anyway; this was the only chance they had.
Another half-hour had passed when Alex spoke up again looking at his watch which he somehow managed to sneak in.
" We have five minutes at the most to escape the building” he said.
“Then” he continued “we run for it”
Taylor remained silent. Even if they were able to escape the main building silently, there was almost no chance of them making it to the boundary alive...
“The shift changes in ten” he spoke again.
Taylor nodded in response...
