The New Girl

Steven’s POV,

Gunshots were going off all around me. I had already shot two men. I turned left and ran down a small hallway that only had one door. I tried to open it but it was locked. Thinking it was where Dahila was hiding I kicked it open. It looked like a perfectly made bedroom with a bathroom attached to it. I walked in and it looked as if the room was empty. That’s when I heard a small shuffle in the closet. I pointed my gun at the door and hollered. “Come out slowly or ill kill you.” I heard nothing. Damn it, I said to myself. “I’m not picking playing games. Move your ass or I’ll shoot.”

“Please don’t shoot, I’m tied up in here.” The voice didn’t belong to Dahila. It could be a trap so I moved slowly.

“What’s your name?”

“I need you to move as far back as you can from the door.”

“Okay.” I gave her a few seconds before I slammed the door down. I couldn’t believe what I saw. This beautiful girl was handcuffed inside the closet. “Please don’t hurt me.” She said.

“Sweetheart I’m not here to hurt you. Who put you here?”

“My father.”

“Come on, we can talk about this later. Let’s get out of here.” She smiled up at me and I would recognize that smile anywhere.

Mia’s POV,

I looked around the van and realized Steven wasn’t here. “You guys where is Steven?” I asked. Everyone started to look at the door as Steven pulled it open.

“I’m right here, everyone inside is dead.” I was so grateful to see Steven. Then he pulled a woman in front of him. “Um, Mia, this is Ember. She was tied up inside a closet in the house.” Everyone looked at her as if they were seeing a ghost. Including me, She looked just like me. Her eyes were lighter and her skin was tanner, but she just looked so much like me.

“Come on you two get in the van, we need to get out of here,” Collin yelled out. Steven and Ember jumped into the van and we took off. Ember had cuffs on her hands that two of the guys were now trying to remove.

“Mia, you really need to talk with Ember. I think she is your father’s daughter.” The color drained from my face and I couldn’t stop looking at Steven.

“What makes you think that?” Logan asked.

“Because she said her last name is Kincade.” I looked over at Logan.

“This can’t be true, can it?”

“I don’t know baby, but it looks like you need to talk to her. Let’s get back to the safe house and we can go from there.” All I could do was watch Ember the whole drive back. Once in a while, I would look at my baby sister in my arms. She was sleeping softly. Ember was looking at me too. She looked scared and was shaking some. Steven had moved closer to her, trying to help her out.

I almost felt scared of her. Not scared but afraid of what I was going to find out about her. I know my father is a piece of shit, but I swear if she is his. I’ll kill him myself. It only made me worry more for my mother and siblings.

We finally pulled up to the safe house. Or should I say safe mansion? The place was a huge cabin hidden deep in the woods. It had eight bedrooms. We all got out of the van and Bean took off to hide the van. As we walked inside, I asked Logan to take Hope to our bedroom and lay her down. Poor Logan looked nervous. “Don’t worry, you will be okay.” He nodded at me, kissed my lips, and walked off with the baby. I took a seat on the couch and steven and Ember sat across from me. Steven handed her and me cups of tea. A few seconds later Logan was by my side.

“My name is Logan, can you tell us a little about yourself?” Ember placed her tea on the table.

“I really don’t know what to say. I was placed at that house about two weeks ago by some of my father’s men. I thought I was going there to be safe, but they locked me up and no one ever gave me any answers.”

“Who’s your father?” I asked her, scared of her answer.

“Richard Kincade.” My heart started to pound and I felt dizzy. I grabbed onto Logan for support.

“What’s going on?” Ember asked. Steven turned and looked at her.

“I don’t know how to tell you this, but...” Steven turned and looked at me. “This is Mia... Kincade. She is your sister.”

“What? That can’t be true. I’m my father’s only child.” Logan, Collin, and Steven all started to shake their heads.

“What has he been telling this girl?” Logan whispered. We all looked back over at Ember.

“Ember, can you tell me about your mother?” I asked her softly.

“She died when I was five and my father left me with my aunt and uncle. I saw him all the time, but he was always so busy that they raised me.”

“How old are you?” I asked her.

“I just turned twenty, three days ago.” I was sitting there looking at my big sister. I was almost ready to pass out. I wasn’t sure how to break everything to her without making her have a breakdown. At least so I could have mine first. Logan kissed my cheek and held me closer to him. I knew he was just trying to help and support me while I did what I was about to do. Which was ruin this poor girl’s whole life. I took a deep breath.

“Ember, you have three sisters and a brother.” Her eyes got huge as I sat here and poured out all the information I could give her at that moment. Once I stopped talking the tears started to run down her face. “I don’t know why you were placed there at the place, but I’m sure we will find out.” Her tears caused me to start crying as well. At that moment I felt nothing but tired and wore out. I could only imagine how Ember was feeling. The only thing on my mind was could there be others. Who the fuck was my father? All I cared about now was finding my mother and siblings.

I looked over at Logan. “I want to go to bed,” I said and he nodded at me. Logan and I both stood up.

“I’m taking Mia to bed. Steven, please make sure Ember has everything she needs.” Steven nodded his head at Logan and we headed off to bed. “Are you okay baby?”

“No Logan, I’m not. I can’t believe this. I mean you have got to be kidding me, right?” Logan was pulling the covers back from the bed.

“I’m not surprised by anything at this point.” I walked over and looked at Hope. She was sound asleep in her crib.

“How could he do this to us all?” Logan was already laying in the bed. Hope was beautiful, the perfect baby. Why doesn’t he care about us? He was my best friend. I was always daddy’s girl. Come to find out he had four girls now. All I could do was shake my head. I walked over to the bed and crawled in with Logan. He pulled me into his arms and started to run his fingers up and down my arm.

“I’m so sorry you're going through this babe. I’m not sorry that I took you out of that home now.”

“I worried about my mother and siblings.”

“I know, and I’m going to do my best to bring them back to you.” I knew the words he spoke to me were the truth. Logan was mine and now I had a baby to raise and a new sister to help understand what the fuck was going on. Only I didn’t even understand it all. I hoped she would accept what was happing. I didn’t want her to go away. She is my sister and she needs us all.

Steven’s POV,

“I hope this room is okay for you?” I watched as Ember seemed to walk around in a daze. I felt so bad for her. She just got a lot of information and I didn’t think she was handling it all that well. “Ember? is there anything I can do for you?”

“Yeah, you can wake me up from this nightmare I’m stuck in.”

“I know you don’t know any of us, and I know you have no reason to believe what we say, but if it helps Mia is telling you the truth. She is your sister and she is an amazing and loving person.”

“Sounds like you have a bit of a crush.” She said with a small smile. I had to laugh a little.

“Yeah, maybe I did at some point, but that’s long gone now. She is like a best friend to me. I’m grateful she is in my life, and you will be too.”

“I can’t believe that baby is my sister too.”

“I know this is all a horrible mess, but I promise you all will be reviled as soon as we find Richard.”

“Screw that son of a bitch.” She said as she took a seat on the edge of the bed.

“Can I get you anything?”

“Some food please, it’s been days since I have eaten anything.”

“Are you kidding me?” She shook her head at me and I left the room to get her food. When I returned, Ember was just coming out of the bathroom. She was in nothing more than a towel. I set the food on her bed and tried to look away. “There are clothes in that closet. I leave you to it.”

“Please Steven, will you stay? I don’t want to be alone tonight.” I knew this wasn’t a good idea, but what could I do? I couldn’t just leave her after everything she just found out. I walked over to the bedroom door and closed it and locked it. I walked over to the couch and laid back on it. “What are you doing?”

“Laying down.”

“Please come to the bed. You won’t be comfortable over there.” I took a deep breath. Fuck me, I said to myself as I moved myself over to the bed next to her.
