Chapter twenty: time machine part two

"It's been weeks since that guy has presented us that time machine and we haven't done anything with it yet," Hudson says. "I think this guy is faking it."

"I found it useless," Melody says.

"Agree," Ryder says placing down a card. Charlie placed down a card as well when Ryder shakes his head. "Damn Charlie, you screwed me over."

"Hehehehe."

Megan rushed in all furious when she stops mid tracks looking at everyone in the living room. "Don't ask. I'm not in a good mood."

"Aww, is it someone's time of the month?" Hudson asked with a girly voice.

"No it's not, dipshit. I'm dead and can't get my period!"

"Then what happened?" Mason asks knowing damn well what could've happened. The other day he overheard Darren talking to another girl which wasn't Megan. Apparently she was his wife which Mason had no idea he had one. Of course he didn't say anything because he could care less. Also he tried telling Megan it was a bad idea but she wouldn't fucking listen.

"Oh you know damn well what happened!" she snapped.

"Hey, don't talk to him like that," Jane deffended.

"Oh shut it!"

"Hey! You don't get to talk to Jane like that!" Melody stood up walking right to her face ready to fight. Hudson and Mason stood up to sepereate the girls. Both men pulled the girls away from each other, however, Mason dragged Megan away who was fighting against him.

He managed to pull her into a seperate room and locking the door.

"What the hell was that?"

"Why didn't you fucking tell me that he was married?!"

"I didn't know until I over heard him. Plus I fucking told you that he was bad news!" Mason deffended himself.

"I feel like a slut. I've done shit with a married man that I shouldn't of."

"You're not a slut. We didn't know he was married, so calm the fuck down-"

"Calm down? CALM DOWN??!! How the fuck do you expect me to calm down when I fucked a married man?!"

"You're in hell so it doesn't matter anyways."

She sighs slumping down to the floor hiding her face in her hands. "I know I'm a bitch but I ain't a slut . . . or at least never wanted to be."

"Let me tell you something. I've done way worse shit than you sleeping with a married man. I know it's not right but what can you do?"

"You've . . ." she lifts her head up, "you've done worse?"

"Yes . . . A lot worse. I've done things I'm not proud of."

"Are you trying to scare me? I remember the deal."

"Oh I do too, and no, I'm not trying to scare you."

Megan shakes her head. "Now what do we do?"

"We forget this ever happened."

"Okay," she said, not wanting to argue. She stands up ready to walk out that door when Mason stops her.

"Not so fast."

"What?" She snapped.

"Hold up . . . Do you hear that?" They listen closely to the rustling outside. He moves towards the window slowly while Megan's still standing frozen in place. Looking out he saw someone- two people talking. One was Rupert and another was someone whom he doesn't recognize. He couldn't hear what they were saying but his gut was telling him something's strange. Megan walked up to the window watching these two.

"What's happening?"

"I don't know. But something's wrong."

"Suspicious."

"You might be right, Megan."

A victory smile appears. "Don't celebrate yet. We're still unsure."

"Well that's better than nothing."

They watch as they head into the forest. Mason grabbed her wrist pulling her along. "Where are we going?"

"To follow them."

-

They walked quite a distance in the forest. Megan and Mason kept their distance quite well as they didn't want to be noticed by them. "This is ridiculous. All they've done is walk around but nothing interesting has happened," Megan complained.

"Something's got to happen."

"We've been following them for over half an hour and nothing has happened."

He heard voices in the distance. As they walked closer the voices got louder. Mason knew they stopped walking so grabbing onto Megan's wrist pulling her into the dead trees and bushes. She didn't say anything as she heard the voices as well. They crept closer until the guys came into view. Crouching down they listen closely.

"I need Mason and only Mason going into the time machine. No one else!"

" Capeesh."

"Or else," this guy rose his hand towards Rupert's face with flame appearing. Rupert's not too fazed by the flame like he's been threatened but it before.

"Of course. That's not a problem."

-

"The machine is ready to be tested," Rupert replies to the crowd. "I need one volunteer."

No one raises their hands as they're sceptical about this machine. After the walk Megan and Mason went on, they agreed to not let Mason go through the portal. "How about . . . Mason. Why don't you be the tester."

"No," he stated coldly.

"Oh come on it'll be fun."

"You volunteered me and I said no."

Everyone stayed quiet watching the scene play out. "Mason. I promise you'll be safe."

"I don't care. I'm not going."

Megan noticed Rupert fidgeting with the controls as he's standing to the side. She doubts any one else notices though. She kept an eye on him when a spark of light flashed before a small portal opened beside him.

"Mason!" She yelled at him. Everyone stopped looking her way but she wasn't paying to him at all. Her focus was more on the portal that growing bigger when people started noticing. One second Megan was standing and the next she shoved Mason out of the way and being pulled by the force of the portal. Megan grabs the grass trying to gain her strength but she lost being pulled into the portal. Her screams mixed with everyone else's screams and chaotic matter didn't help the situation. Megan felt her foot touching it when a pair of hands wrapped around her arms. She grabbed on tight glancing up to Mason pulling her but he lost his balance and being pulled in.

She couldn't hear anything when she was sucked in and everything spun around her. She screamed closing her eyes tight as the white light shines in her eyes. Immediately she came contact with hard ground.

"Fuck!"

Turning herself over so she's laying on her back she took a minute to collect herself. Her stomach churned when realization hit her. She got up running to the near by bush and vomited. Wiping the extra off her face she stood up and looked around.

"I don't think I'm in the underworld anymore."

-

Mason and Rupert were arguing when Megan yelled his name, he looked over to her as she's looking in Rupert's direction when in a flash he was on the ground from her shove. She screamed attempting to get a grip on herself when Mason ran to her grabbing onto her arms all the while everyone else is screaming. He tried to pull her but his strength isn't there. She was pulled in when he couldn't hang in anymore letting her go but that's when he felt a tug of force dragging him in. "Mason!" Ryder yelled at him as he ran with Hailey and Justin running behind him calling for Ryder.

In his peripheral vision Charlie's being pulled as well when he was sucked in. Ryder grabs Mason trying to pull him out but he was yanked into the portal by the force.

People around them were yelling hint to turn it off and trying to break the time machine but nothing was working. His father threw flames at the time machine but one went through and he kept missing but ended up hitting Rupert. As he's screaming and rolling on the ground Hailey and Justin were pulled along with Hudson, Melody and Jane. Mason was the last one to go when the portal closed on them. White light swirled around him when he fell onto something hard.

Groaning from the impact he took a minute to gather himself up. Slowly standing up he looked at his surroundings. He's at the high school in Spruce Grove but what caught him off guard was he saw Hailey, Melody, Jane, and Justin sitting at one of the picnic tables. He sighed with relief when he found them. Galloping down the hill with the trees he was about to call their names when two people turns the corner and walks towards their direction. He stopped when he realized that it's him and Hudson. They walk up to the small group talking when Hudson sat beside Melody while this Mason stands back watching everything play out.

After a couple minutes of Hudson flirting with Melody she pushes him off the bench. This brings back déjà vu when it donned on him. A student walked by on their phone. Mason walked towards them.

"Excuse me, what year is it?"

"The year? Don't you know the year," the student asks.

"No, that's why I'm asking you."

"It's 2043."

Oh shit.
