Epilogue: Human

When Megan woke up, she felt different. Something felt off. Mason was still asleep so she got out of bed, did her daily routine in the bathroom, when her stomach growled. Shaking it off, she finished before heading to the kitchen.

No one was up yet but the chef. "Good morning Mrs. Shore. What can I make you this morning?"

"Morning. I'm feeling some eggs with fresh fruit, please."

"Of course." She got the stuff ready.

"How would you like your eggs?"

Megan sat there for a minute before getting up to help with the fruit. "Oh you don't have to do that."

"I do though. I'm trying to be a better person."

"Well that's lovely of you to help, thank you."

"Why, you're welcome."

Both women chatted about life and whatnot while they made breakfast. Cutting a strawberry in half, Megan accidently cut herself. "Ouch."

The chef glanced over in worry. "Oh honey, let me help you." The chef helped Megan with the cut. Blood was dripping out, however, Megan wasn't concerned. In fact, she was happy that she was bleeding.

"I'm bleeding! Do you know what this means?"

"I'm human! I'm not dead anymore!"

"Oh that's great."

After getting the cut washed and bandaged, Megan poured the fruit into a bowl and set it on the island as she got two plates.

"Who's the second plate for?"

"How nice of you, but I've already eaten. I might just snack on the fruit, though."

Placing back the plate, the chef puts the eggs on the plate. Megan took the plate and dished the fruit onto her plate and the women sat at the island and chatted. As they laugh, Mason walks in the kitchen. The first thing he noticed was the bandage on her finger.

"What happened?" he asks. Mason examines the finger.

"I bled!" she exclaimed. "I'm human, Mason!"

"That's great! Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine. Come eat with us."

He picks a piece of fruit from the bowls and grabs water from the fridge. "So what's happening today?" Megan asks.

"I've got to head into town and help rebuild some of the houses, then gotta be in a meeting about politics."

"I know, but I have to."

He kisses her on the head. "Be careful. I don't want you to hurt yourself." Kissing, Mason took another fruit and left.

"You are a lucky woman to be with him."

"What do you mean?"

"A lot of women love him but he never loved a girl. He only loves his family and friends. But it seems he's found the right girl. I'm praying that you two stay together for all eternity."

"I hope so too. I really love him and hope that it'll work out. Although it will be hard for the first bit since he's got responsibilities but we'll get through it."

"I'm sure you will."

Megan sat in the library reading a book when Ryder came in. "There you are. I was looking all over for you . . . I didn't know you like to read."

"I didn't but I've gotta find something to do. Plus this book isn't too bad."

"Well mind if I join you? I'd like to catch up on reading as well."

"I don't mind at all."

Ryder sat in the chair across from her after picking up a book. They sat in silence for hours reading. Megan dozed off one page thinking about the events occurred, from the moment she died to the moment she's sitting here.

How the Schattens were destroying everything. She traveled back in time with the others. It was an adventure that she didn't expect. It was something she needed but didn't know. It was an experience that she wouldn't want to relive again, but had gladly been through it, except for when she and Mason almost died.

She hopes and prays that something like this won't happen again. However, something new and exciting might happen. Who knows what the future will bring.
