Chapter 3

INT. DR. HAMILTON’S OFFICE – MORNING

Frank closes the door behind him; Hamilton steps to him.

FRANK

Everything set up?

HAMILTON

I had the room you asked for prepped and ready this morning.

FRANK

Good deal. Where’s Leonard?

HAMILTON

Asleep behind my desk.

Frank looks over to see Conroy sleeping on a blanket, in the floor; behind Hamilton’s desk.

FRANK

Did he leave to go anywhere of last night?

HAMILTON

No. I stayed with him all night; he’s been here all along.

FRANK

That’s good. I know we can’t let him be in any isolated areas, but –

HAMILTON

I know. You got all of your equipment?

FRANK

All we could find, yeah.

HAMILTON

I have to ask......

(beat)

May I go with you?

FRANK

I’m sorry?

HAMILTON

Within his subconscious, with you and your colleagues?

Frank scolds the old professor but nods.

FRANK

Yes, but you have to listen to everything I tell you.

HAMILTON

Gladly.

FRANK

Alright. Well, I have to get down there, start setting up. Lots to do, too little time. I’ll see you tomorrow.

Frank turns to open the door, leaving.

HAMILTON

I’ll see you too Frank.

INT. SMALL HOUSE, LIVING ROOM- NIGHT

Frank stands in front of the Living room table, while Marshall, Jim, and Trevor sit on the couch. We see piles of paper work on the table. Frank is thinking.

FRANK

This goes with the converter, right, Trevor?

TREVOR

Yeah, yeah. My only concern is getting this stuff up and running tomorrow. You sure there’s no way we can wait longer?

FRANK

No. Hamilton was pretty persistent.

JIM

I don’t trust him.

Frank looks at his three companions, who nod in agreeance.

FRANK

I don’t either. But it is his patient, so this is all we can do for now.

MARSHALL

I hope you know what you’re doing.

Frank looks at the T.V.

FRANK

Yeah. Me too.

EXT. HOSPITAL PARKING LOT-MORNING

Frank steps out of his car, as does Marshall, Jim, and Trevor. Jim holds a suitcase. We see Hamilton walk to them.

HAMILTON

Have everything?

FRANK

Yeah. Let’s get this over with.

INT. DR. HAMILTON’S OFFICE – MORNING

Conroy sits in a chair, in front of Hamilton’s desk. Hamilton steps in the room, Conroy stands to greet him.

CONROY

Hello, Doctor.

HAMILTON

You look nervous, Leonard.

CONROY

It’s a dangerous procedure. Can’t say I’m not worried.

Hamilton waves his hand, gesturing for Conroy to walk to him- he does. Hamilton puts his hand on Conroy’s shoulder.

HAMILTON

Everything is going to be fine.

Conroy nods, trying to reassure himself.

HAMILTON

Here.

Hamilton opens his curtain blinds, showing a white room with Frank, Marshall, Jim, and Trevor preparing their devices and Chairs to where they need it to go.

HAMILTON

They will take care of you.

CONROY

I thought Frank said that he’d have four people with him.

HAMILTON

Their fourth friend didn’t seem interested so I am filling in. Therefore, there’s no need to be worried.

Conroy looks through the window, watching them.

Frank sets up the Jump Sanity battery.

A green light pops up on its right corner.

Frank looks up to see the two watching him, he gives them thumbs up.

HAMILTON

You know how to get down there?

CONROY

Yeah, I think so.

HAMILTON

Good, I’ll catch up with you. Go on, they’re waiting.

Conroy nods, and slowly leaves the room.

Hamilton stares out the window, as if accomplishing a wondrous thing.

HAMILTON

Finally.

INT. WHITE ROOM- MORNING

Frank hands Trevor some wires and a large cable, Conroy walks into the room.

FRANK

Well, if it isn’t the man of the hour.

CONROY

Nice to be I suppose.

Everyone chuckles silently.

FRANK

Oh, these are my buddies. Trevor, Marshall, and Jim.

They each shake his hand.

CONROY

My name’s Leonard. It’s nice to meet all of you.

FRANK

You nervous?

Conroy nods. Frank smiles.

FRANK (CONT’D)

Don’t worry. We’re all a little skittish about this. But I promise you, everything will be okay.

Frank turns to Marshall.

FRANK

Could you show him where to sit? I gotta finish connecting the temple relaxers.

MARSHALL

Yeah. Sure.

Frank goes to one of the chairs, adding the temple relaxers to it, and then plugging them into a Jump Battery.

Marshall takes Conroy to the chair in the center.

MARSHALL

Here’s your seat, fella.

CONROY

Thank you.

MARSHALL

You see these?

Marshall points out the relaxers. Conroy nods.

MARSHALL (CONT’D)

You place them here.

Marshall pokes his temples on both sides of his head.

MARSHALL (CONT’D)

Other than that, we do all the work.

CONROY

How will I know when you guys are done?

MARSHALL

When you wake up.

CONROY

Oh, okay.

Conroy takes a deep breath.

MARSHALL

You good?

CONROY

Yeah, I’m okay.

MARSHALL

Alright, well, I gotta finish hooking this up.

(beat)

Hey.

Conroy looks at him, Marshall smiles in reassurance.

MARSHALL

You’re gonna be fine.

Conroy smiles a bit. Marshall lays the cable wire on the floor, plugging it into the Jump Battery. We see Hamilton step into the room, he passes a reassuring smile to Conroy, as he walks to Frank.

HAMILTON

Everything set?

FRANK

Almost, we just need to get these last two chairs hooked into the battery and we’ll be all set.

HAMILTON

Is that what this is?

Hamilton points at the Jump Sanity Battery.

FRANK

Close, that’s the Jump Sanity Battery.

HAMILTON

The what?

FRANK

The Jump Sanity Battery. It ensures that we don’t have the risk of going batshit insane while we’re inside.

Frank points at the Jump Battery.

FRANK (CONT’D)

I’m connecting that Battery here.

HAMILTON

Oh, I see.

Frank lays the wires down, and sits in the chair beside Conroy.

As he does this, Hamilton pushes the switch of the battery downwards- the green light disappears. Hamilton sits on the other chair beside Conroy.

FRANK

Are you ready for this?

CONROY

I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.

FRANK

Well, that makes two of us.

They chuckle.

FRANK

Just be calm and everything will go just the way we need it to.

CONROY

You seem to really know what you’re doing.

FRANK

I’m a little rusty, but I know this like the back of my hand.

TREVOR (O.S.)

Frank!

Frank turns to Trevor.

TREVOR (CONT’D)

Last chairs hooked up, ready to go.

FRANK

Alright, sweet.

Frank turns to Conroy.

FRANK

Leonard, it’s not too late to back out.

Conroy just looks at him.

FRANK (CONT’D)

Remember, this is up to you.

Leonard grabs Frank by his sleeve, his eyes shaking.

CONROY

I’ll see you here when I wake up?

Frank grins.

FRANK

Of course. You have my word; we will see each other again.

Frank sits back as the others take their seats.

FRANK

Everyone, this is a vital procedure. There’s no going back from this. Anything can happen in these next coming moments, so keep our intent clear: try and find the source of what is causing the Memory Complex and destroy it, understood?

Everyone nods their heads, understanding.

Frank grabs his temple relaxers, and turns to face Hamilton.

FRANK

Stick these onto your temples.

Hamilton nods.

Everyone places the temple relaxers on their temples as instructed.

Frank puts his hand on the switch.

FRANK

Everyone ready?

They look at each other, then nod at Frank.

He looks at Conroy.

FRANK

Ready, Leonard?

CONROY

Yeah, I’m ready.

He turns to the others.

FRANK

When I pull this switch, Leonard is going to submerge to a form of unconsciousness. We, of course, will follow. Anyone piss themselves yet?

Everyone shakes their heads.

FRANK

Good, me either.

Frank looks at Conroy.

FRANK

This is gonna sting for a bit.

Frank pulls the switch; Conroy grits his teeth and instantly loses consciousness!
