How do Inkitt writing contests work?
Inkitt hosts contests each month with various themes depending on the season. Winners can expect a variety of prizes, including cash prizes, publishing contracts, professional coaching from writing experts, and much more!
How are winners chosen?
Inkitt’s mission is to give all authors a fair chance to succeed, and that extends to how we choose our winners. Our algorithm judges blindly based on over 1200 reader behaviors. This is more complicated than simple reads, likes, or reviews. While it’s certainly nice to have those things, a story won’t necessarily win just because it’s got lots of comments or likes.
In fact, a recent winner of our Midsummer Mystery Contest, @TheRealMcCo, had this wonderful feedback to share with all authors considering joining an Inkitt writing contest:
“Winning Inkitt’s Midsummer Murder Mystery Contest took me by complete surprise! It’s a gift that keeps on giving, too, especially when I see the number of readers who’ve added Dead of Winter and my other works to their reading lists. I can’t thank Inkitt enough!”
Are there any costs or tricks?
Inkitt is a completely free platform, and our writing contests will remain that way as well! None of our contests have any entry fees or costs of any kind. Additionally, we pride ourselves on our contests being about the authors. This means that authors will retain all rights to their works and can remove them from the contest or Inkitt at any time. All terms and conditions can be found on the contest pages themselves!
Why does Inkitt host contests?
Inkitt hosts writing contests each month because our aim is to help authors in any way we can! Contests can be a fun way to motivate authors to try a new genre, start a new story, or finally share that WIP. Whatever the reason, we want to help! Outside of motivation, writing contests can be a great way for both new and experienced authors in the community to grow their reader base. Friendly competitions can be a great resource for authors and readers alike, so we will proudly continue to support that!
What contests are Inkitt currently hosting?
Inkitt is currently hosting the biggest writing contest in company history! Inkitt’s “Turn off the Lights” Thriller Contest is offering 10 publishing contracts and $35,000 in total cash prizes. This writing contest is open to all things thriller, mystery, horror, and suspense, and the last day to enter is February 28, 2022.
