The Writing Journey
Inkitt: What inspired you to become an author?
Sofia: I’ve loved books since learning to read at age 5. I started writing stories with illustrations when I was 7, and I’ve known I wanted to be a writer ever since.
Inkitt: What was your first published story?
Sofia: My first publicly published story was “The Unexpected Queen” on Inkitt, which was later published on Galatea.
Inkitt: How did you discover Inkitt?
Sofia: I found the Galatea app and loved one of the stories there. When I looked up the author, I discovered she also wrote on Inkitt, which inspired me to publish there myself.
From Inkitt to Galatea Success
Inkitt: What was it like seeing your story gain traction?
Sofia: I loved posting chapters on Inkitt! Readers’ theories in the comments inspired me to keep writing and develop my characters further.
Inkitt: Did Inkitt’s analytics help shape your story?
Sofia: Yes! It was engaging to see the statistics and track reader engagement as the story took shape.
Inkitt: How did it feel becoming a Galatea author?
Sofia: I found out shortly after completing my first book on Inkitt. It felt great! I was equally proud when Galatea expressed interest in publishing “Don’t Run.”
Inkitt: What are you most excited about readers seeing in your Galatea book?
Sofia: I’m looking forward to readers getting to know Maya and witnessing her emotional growth and increased self-confidence throughout the story.
Writing Tips & Process
Inkitt: What advice would you give to Inkitt authors hoping for a Galatea contract?
Sofia: Write consistently! Read other Inkitt stories and maintain a regular upload schedule. Readers appreciate consistency, so establish specific days for posting chapters and stick to that promise.
Inkitt: What helped your stories succeed on Inkitt?
Sofia: I got readers hooked early in my stories and consistently uploaded new chapters every second day.
Inkitt: How do you overcome writing challenges?
Sofia: Discipline is key. For my current project, I write at least half a chapter daily, even when inspiration isn’t flowing as strongly as it did with my first book.
Inkitt: How do you stay motivated during long projects?
Sofia: I visualize my characters’ future like a movie in my head, then build chapters from those scenarios.
Creative Influences & Methods
Inkitt: Which authors have influenced your writing style?
Sofia: Annie Whipple from Galatea is an inspiration! Also Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros. Outside of romantasy, J.R.R Tolkien, Virginia Woolf, and Jane Austen have been huge influences.
Inkitt: Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Sofia: A bit of both! I start with a general sequence of events but allow the story to move in different directions as I write.
Inkitt: How do you develop your characters?
Sofia: They often surprise me! I ensure good character development, but I believe it’s important that my characters make mistakes. This gives them humanity and makes them relatable.
Inkitt: What recurring themes do you hope readers take from your stories?
Sofia: That even underdogs are stronger than they think and never alone. There are people who love you as you are, and you’re an important part of this world.
Inkitt: How do you overcome writer’s block?
Sofia: I try to write even without inspiration—sometimes working on a different small story to break through. But I’m also kind to myself and take days off when needed. Rest days aren’t failures—they’re necessary, just like in exercise.
