We’re excited to share this exclusive Q&A with Meghann Crane, the author of Saving Odette, now published on Galatea. From discovering her passion for writing during the pandemic to embracing her identity as an author, Meghann’s story is full of creative breakthroughs, personal growth, and relatable honesty. In this interview, she opens up about writing reverse harem romance, overcoming self-doubt, and how Inkitt and Galatea helped her bring her stories to life.
Inkitt: What sparked your writing journey?
Meghann: During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, I found myself with a lot of extra time at home. I always wanted to write but was too shy and never carved out the time. The pandemic changed that.
Inkitt: Your first story became quite successful. What was that experience like?
Meghann: I couldn’t believe it at first. My first story, ‘Falling for the Mafia Brothers,’ is actually on Galatea now, and I’m working with them on rewriting it. It’s the only story I wrote in third person and definitely less polished than my newer work. If it wasn’t for Inkitt, I don’t think I would have had the chance to publish anything or had the guts to do it.
Inkitt: How did you discover Inkitt?
Meghann: I actually did an internet search for writing apps and Inkitt came up. I liked the interface and how it looked. It fit what I wanted more than the other apps I came across.
Inkitt: Tell us about becoming a Galatea author.
Meghann: Galatea first approached me in 2021, and I was hesitant so I said no. But then I started reading articles about them and reached back out to sign a contract. It was pretty freaking cool to see my story advertised on social media and to see people comment on how much they like it.
Inkitt: What are you most excited about readers seeing in your latest book on Galatea?
Meghann: The characters. This book, ‘Saving Odette,’ is a whole sibling universe and you’ll be seeing more of the characters as time goes on. I’m excited for people to see these characters overcome challenges and struggle with finding who they are. It’s filled with acceptance, love and growth.
Inkitt: What’s been your biggest challenge as a writer?
Meghann: Owning what I wrote. I used to go by the pen name of Avery Law because I didn’t want people to know my identity. Over time, I got more comfortable. I now use my real first name Meghann and a last name associated with my family.
Inkitt gave me the chance to go to a conference where I was on a panel, and it pushed me to start owning what I wrote more, to be prouder of it. It was the first time I actually felt like a true author.
Inkitt: What advice would you give to other Inkitt authors hoping to sign with Galatea?

Meghann Crane, author on Inkitt and Galatea
Meghann: Be true to yourself. Write what you want to write. My biggest stories are reverse harem stories because they are what I like to write. You have to be willing to ignore the people that say they don’t like what you write because for every person that says they don’t like it, you can find two that do.
Inkitt: Is there a piece of writing advice that’s stuck with you?
Meghann: Write something that you are willing to read. If you don’t want to read what you’ve written, can you expect someone else to read it? You have to like what you are writing.
Inkitt: Where do you find inspiration?
Meghann: In everything around me. A song might spark a plot or scene. Reading other stories also helps with my creativity.
Inkitt: Do you have any specific writing rituals?
Meghann: I can’t write in a quiet room. I usually write in the living room while my husband is watching television and the dogs are barking and playing. If it’s too quiet, I find myself getting distracted by things like my phone.
Inkitt: Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Meghann: I am definitely a pantser. The story develops as I write. This is one reason why Inkitt fits me so well. It lets me publish chapters as I write them and get instant feedback from readers. Sometimes their comments dictate what happens to a character.
Inkitt: Which authors have influenced your writing style?
Meghann: I’m a huge romance fan. I love reading Lauren Blakely and Lauren Layne, but the author that got me into spicy romance was Red Phoenix. If you haven’t read her ‘Brie’s Submission’ series, you’re missing out.
Inkitt: What recurring themes do you hope readers take away from your stories?
Meghann: Female strength, fighting for what you want, and not caring what others think as long as you are happy, safe, and healthy.
