Hey there! I Am back for a brand new trope for us to talk about! Yay! Am I right?

We have covered a few of my all time favorites but this one I feel is so near and dear to my heart. That’s right Inkitt ladies and gents, it is the beloved and highly sought out, Forbidden romance.

Isn’t this one so yummy? I think it’s honestly my favorite trope to read, and to write.

Creating What Is Forbidden

Forbidden Romance is straightforward enough, right? A romance that is Forbidden.

The fun part comes in the WHY.

Understanding The Forbidden Romance Trope

Why is it Forbidden? Those beautiful details make this trope one of the funnest to be a part of. Just one detail in the storyline and it adds another genre, just like that!

What do I mean by this? I’m so glad you asked! The answer to this, is also the answer to – why is it forbidden.

The devil is in those details, my love.

Is it because they are best friends? Mortal enemies? Is it an age gap? brother’s best friend? Could it be a brooding match up going back generations? Are they step siblings? Are they work colleagues or a student/teacher scenario?

See! Isn’t it great?

"Forbidden

Personally Loving the Trope

When I pick up a delicious novel with the trope – I am open to all of it. I just love the forbidden nature of it.

I love how they fight back and forth, trying to deny themselves what they truly want. Even if they don’t yet realize it themselves. Going against everything they know because, simply – the heart wants what it wants.

Not to mention the struggle of them finally coming together just for the world to fight them in it.

I love the dramatics, what can I say?

Understand the Classics

This trope is special, not just to me but to some of the all time greats in this world. It’s been around for longer than almost any other trope, and there’s a reason for it.

Have you read wuthering heights? Or the great gatsby? How about a little story by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet?

Classic novels written on this trope that have outlived its authors lifetime.

Isn’t that amazing?

Forbidden romance can dress up in many different subgenres and be a completely different story than the one before it and yet, all the while remaining connected at its core.

I love that.

I love how universally we are all brought together through time- through reader and writer – through sub- genres and much, much more- yet we remain so enthralled by the stories we are transformed side by side.

Why Forbidden Romance Works

Forbidden romance works on the basis of answering the question, Why Is it Forbidden.

Answering that Is telling the story.
