Hell's Laughter

I’m falling. My stomach convulses at the sudden loss of ground beneath my feet. Cold wind blows past me turning my blood to ice, and I can hear the maniacal laughter, the sound of pure joy fading into the distance. I’d scream if I had any breath to give. He pushed me. He pushed me and he laughed.

Clouds cover the moon, and erase the stars. The only light I can see is the shrinking glow of the castle window. My arms flail through the air in front of me, still grasping for that window’s edge that now is much too far away.

I can still feel the spot on my chest where he hit me—where he pushed me hard enough to make me tumble backwards into open sky. His hand print burns where it touched my skin. I can still see the violent glint in his eyes the moment he considered it, the smirk when he did it. The light is so small now.

Everything goes black. And this…this must be hell. Because I can still hear that laughter.
