Prologue

Opening his eyes was a bit tricky, lack of vision brooded over him as he laid on that cold metal table at the centre of a small, quiet and obscure room. The room reeked of nicotine it was getting harder and harder to breath as he attempted to lift himself from the freezing touch of that rusty old table, a simmering pain to the back of his head made him frown. His legs feeble and slender unable to carry him as he splattered across the floor landing on his left side.

Beside him shards of glass from the broken window giving way to the chilling wind. He reached to feel the wound as the blood dripped and dripped across his neck and on to an unnoticeable spot from a burnt cigarette on the carpet where he leaned over. His fingers soaked by the open wound he turned to look across the room and for the first time he noticed he was not alone. There was someone else laying across the floor, he tried to reach in that direction but felt woozy from the blow on his head. He could tell from the way the person dressed that it was a man but couldn’t make his face from his blurry vision and darkness of the room. His shirt and trousers were wet leaving him chilled and shivering, he was covered with blood stains all over his torso, for a moment he thought the blood was his but within a short while he realized it wasn’t. He tried to remember what had happened but his short memories betrayed him.

A rush of adrenaline began sparked by his confusion he could feel a trickle of shock gently down his spine and his heart started pumping faster and faster and suddenly he was cold no longer. He crawled with haste towards the body and turned it over to see who it was, he twitched his eyes with his fingers in order to see clearly the first thing he managed to make up was the bullet’s exit wound from the man’s bloody chest. As he looked upon his face he could see the emptiness in his eyes, the flames that once burnt true were gone they had lost their radiant glow. Once they reflected back at him hope and loyalty now they were gaunter and hollow. His skin was cold and dim, void of the colours that once belonged, his face flushed and still. He recognized him, he knew him.... he loved him.

As he froze hands over his mouth bereft tears warming his icy cheeks, his heart broke and his mind shattered by the unforgiving truth that burnt in to his memories. The reality now seemed deceitful maybe it was a dream or a fraudulent scheme of delusions from his head injuries, he was shocked to see his best friend “Banks” lifeless. He seemed so close but no longer there. From far he could hear the sirens getting closer but now all hope was gone he had lost him. Even as his knees fold in his arms sitting in the dark corner of that room his mind wandered through all they had been together for more than half his life. The walls were closing in and he had nothing left to kindle a reaction. All they hard worked so hard for came to a cruel and sudden end. The police arrived and entered the room he barely noticed, they searched the entire house for any other people even as they cuffed him and took him away he was in shock and unresponsive.
