Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

When she awoke this morning, Terra had only one thing on her mind: to go to school and survive. Little did she know that someone would come along and completely change her life. What does one do when the new kid drags one to the pits of hell? Well, we are about to find out.

Terra's POV

I groan softly as the sun starts to rise, beams of light peeking in between the blinds. I try to hide underneath the covers to avoid the light hitting me in the face.

"Well, if it isn't little miss sunshine!" My mother says as she enters my room, ever so rudely, without my permission. She pulls the blinds up and pulls my blanket off of me.

"Mom! I didn't even need to be up yet" I groan in disdain, trying to steal the covers back. She shakes her head yanks it from my grasp and tosses it to the other side of the room.

"Not today missy." She scolds "You are not going to be late to school today. Remember? You volunteered to help the new students around the school today. You know, to take care of the community service you so hate to do despite it being court-ordered?"

I groan and sigh, knowing she was right. I should probably explain why I have community service tacked onto me, shouldn't I? To make a long story short, my ex-boyfriend, with emphasis on the EX part, dragged me out to a party after dark, the party got wild, and I woke up the next day in a jail cell, and had to get bailed out by my mom. The details are quite foggy to be completely honest with you. Probably the alcohol's fault.

"Fine Mom, I'll get ready Jesus," I mumble under my breath as I go to walk towards my closet.

"What was that?" She replies.

"Nothing Mom!" I say half-heartedly, giving her a fake grin.

She rolls her eyes at me and points at me and then at the closet, exiting the room shortly afterward. I sigh open my closet and start to get dressed. I grab my favorite graphic tee and some sweats, along with my Crocs and one of my beanies. What? My ears get cold!

"Alright, I'm ready!" I shout at my mom, before grabbing my car keys.

"You're going to school like that?" My mom says, walking into the kitchen with a look of disapproval, or disappointment. Probably both. "I was hoping you'd wear that dress I picked out for you.."

"Mom, seriously, we went over this. I don't wear dresses. Never have, never will. Nice try though." I shove my keys in my pocket and grab my backpack heading out the door "I probably won't be back til later, I've got to stay after school" I reply.

"Okay! Well don't be too late, call me when you are done alright?" She says. "Love you!"

"I love you too Mom" I respond, heading out the door. Time for another hellish day at school.

Zannith POV

"But Dad!" I groan "I doubt she even remembered the ordeal in the first place, why do I have to be up there?"

"You transformed out of range in front of the girl, she could expose our very existence!" He responds. "So you can either do one of two things, 1. bring her here to where she can't tell a single soul what happened at that godforsaken party, or 2. you send me up there and I just kill the bitch off for fun. Which one would you prefer?" He seethes.

"Fine. I'll go. But you do owe me for this" I sneer at him.

"Owe you? YOU should be thanking ME for covering your ass. Do you realize how screwed you would be if anyone else found out about this? We are lower-class demons in hell, you shouldn't even be fucking with going to the upper world like that, much less can do so. So yeah, I don't owe you a damn thing. Fix. It. Or I will have it taken care of myself." His stare was cold and emotionless the majority of the time, but this time he had genuine fear and anger in his eyes. I sigh and nod.

"Yes, father."

Terra Pov

I pull into the school parking lot and sure enough, everyone is flocked around the new kids, or one new kid in particular. I chuckle at the stupidity being displayed in front of me. Why are people so weird? Flocking around a new kid like they're fresh meat is ridiculous. I walk past all the drama enter the school and head straight for the office, where I am greeted by the school's secretary, Ms. Thorn.

"Welcome to Lions High- oh hello Ms. Terra! I am assuming you are here to collect the kid's schedules for the tour of the school today?" She asks sweetly.

"Yes ma'am!" I respond. It's frustrating to pretend to be nice to her, but this is the only way I'll get through this ridiculous day.

She nods and hands me an organized list of every new student's schedule. I looked at it and only one schedule on the list, and it's the same schedule as me. Oh, come on you have to be joking.

"Uh... Ms. Thorn?" I say still looking at the paper "I was under the impression that I was showing around at least three other students besides the one listed. What happened to the other students?" I ask.

"Well, it's the darndest thing. We were supposed to have those three students show up this morning, and they just never showed up. Couldn't get through to their parent's phone numbers either. So, you just have one! I left their name off the schedule just so you could get an introduction yourself. They're supposed to be meeting you in the library shortly."

"Okay.. but why do they have the same schedule as" I get cut off by Ms. Thorn, who has stepped out from behind the counter and has started pushing me out the door.

"Hurry! you're going to be late for the first period if you don't!" She says in an oddly chipper tone.

Well, this just got a whole lot weirder than I anticipated.
