Chapter 1 The Smith's
𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐲’𝐬 𝐏𝐎𝐕
‘You want me to what?’ I say clearly shocked at their request, ‘Look, it’s not that big of a deal. Just say yes. P-please.’ I just looked at them in utter disbelief. 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑠𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑟𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑛𝑜𝑤 I thought to myself. ‘Look, are you going to do it or not, you wench?’
Well, isn’t this lady just the sweetest? 𝐼 𝑤𝑜𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑖𝑓 𝐼 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 𝑠𝑙𝑖𝑡 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑔 *ℎ𝑚𝑚𝑚*𝑛𝑎ℎ 𝑡𝑜𝑜 𝑜𝑏𝑣𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠, a loud banging sound brought me back from my thoughts. ‘Look lady, we will pay you 30k every month for doing this. Just do it until we find her.’
They must be desperate enough to even offer to pay me.′ I’m sorry, but I can’t help you out. You’ll have to look for someone else’s with that. I turn to walk away, but before I can, someone grabs my hand on reflex. I flip them over. I stared down to see who had the guts to touch me; the young man who was now lying on the floor looked up at me with pleading eyes. He reminded me so much of the old me, naive, stupid, and too kind.
‘Please save us. If you don’t do it, my whole family will be killed.’ I blankly stare at him, leaning in. I whisper to him, ‘I like it when they beg.’ I slowly get up with a wide grin on my face. ‘Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to die by my hands. Who knows.’ A look of pure terror played on the boy’s face.
I turned to see his family with the same expression. The lady who was seemingly rude till five seconds ago got on her knees. The whole family followed her lead and started to beg *sigh*. ‘40k’ the sound of my voice made the family stop and stare at me.
‘Make it 40k and I’ll do it.’ ‘40k, can you not reduce it to 35k at least?’ I looked at the old man who was still on his knees. ‘Fine transfer the money before the actual day; if I don’t see it in my account, I don’t show up.’ Walking out of their house, I take a cab and go back home. I arrive home and immediately change my clothes.
The events of today are replaying in my mind. I must be crazy to have taken that job. *sigh* What am I going to do? After having dinner, I go to my room to sleep. ‘𝙽𝚘 𝚗𝚘 𝚙𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚜𝚎’ tears started streaming down my face. I tried to scream, but no sound came out of my mouth. One, two, three, four shots-everything went blank...
