Summary

She's barely keeping it together. He's got his life under control-at least, that's what he tells himself. Together? They're like a fire and a fire extinguisher-completely incompatible. Aisha Patel didn't exactly leave India for a quiet life in a small American town. She came for a fresh start, but being a people pleaser has a way of messing with your vibe, especially when you're trying to juggle a demanding nurse job, a noisy neighbour, and a firefighter with a big ego and an even bigger commitment phobia. Justin Callahan? Yeah, he's the guy who thinks he's got life figured out. Volunteer firefighter, keeps things casual, definitely allergic to anything resembling a relationship. He's also lowkey obsessed with making fun of how Aisha says "chutney"-which is probably the one thing she hasn't been able to let slide. When their paths cross in the worst way possibhello, car park disaster-these two are basically a walking, talking disaster zone. trying to keep it professional and chill. He's trying to act like he doesn't want to set her hair on fire (in the best way, of course). But after a little too much banter, some unexpected moments of vulnerability, and a whole lot of chaos, they might just discover that there's more to each other than meets the eye. Can they get through the baggage and find something real?

DEDICATION

To those who go through life with a smile, even when the world tries to take it away. To those who've taught me that strength isn't about never breaking, but about picking yourself back up every time.

And to Vinky, for always being my lifeline, my real-world support, and the one who told me "Stop thinking about it and just write the damn book already."

PREFACE

For a long while, this story lived only in my head. Bits and pieces of it, scattered thoughts, and fleeting moments that I could never quite piece together in the way I envisioned. As a nurse, I've seen and experienced things that shaped the way I see the world—our ability to heal, to comfort, and sometimes, to just listen. This book is an exploration of that very idea: how we, as human beings, navigate the ups and downs of life, love, and self-discovery.

I've been writing bits and pieces of this story for a while now, and it wasn't until recently that I decided to take that plunge and really organise everything into something that felt whole. Writing this book wasn't easy. Between work, studying, and trying to maintain my sanity (I mean, who knew being an adult would require so much coffee?), it took time. But I knew that if I didn't share it, I'd never get to see it through.

So, here we are. A story about Aisha, a nurse who is learning to navigate her own path, and Justin, someone who believes he has everything figured out... until he meets her. It's about growth, finding yourself, and realising that it's okay not to have it all together. Sometimes, the mess is what makes us who we are.

Being a nurse myself, I wanted to tell a story that wasn't just about romance, but about the complexity of life in general—the work, the struggles, and the quiet moments that truly define us. I hope it resonates with anyone who's ever had to find their voice in the middle of chaos, or who's had to look in the mirror and ask, "Who am I really?"

This book is dedicated to those who are constantly juggling—work, life, and love—and are still searching for something that feels real. To all the book lovers out there who know the world magic of a good story, I hope you find a piece of yourself in Aisha and Justin's journey. And if this book makes you laugh, cry, or maybe even want to yell at a character or two... well, I'll take that as a win.

Lastly, a small disclaimer: any coincidences you come across while reading this story are purely that—coincidences. This is a work of fiction, and any resemblances to actual persons, living or dead, are not intentional.

I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I've enjoyed writing it!
