Prologue
The veil is thin on moonlit nights. And through it, truth walks uninvited.”
—Oracle’s Lament, Fragment IV
The moon hung low, a silver eye watching over the palace an ocean of quiet light spilling over stone and silk. Shadows danced softly in the corridors, whispering secrets that only the night could hold.
She moved like a sigh through the stillness, a fragile shape wrapped in white, delicate as the petals of a ghostflower. To all eyes, she was the princess—innocent, untouched, a whispered promise of purity. But beneath her gentle smile, a storm slept quietly, waiting.
A faint glow pulsed beneath her skin a secret burned into her flesh, a mark that hummed with stories she did not yet understand. It called to her, pulling at threads tangled deep within her bloodline, threads that bound her to a past hidden beneath layers of velvet and lies.
Tonight, she stepped beyond the gilded cage the golden bars of crown and kingdom left behind like fading dreams. The wind, cool and wild, brushed her hair and whispered of freedom. Not escape, no something greater. A beginning.
Her heart, a fragile flame, beat steady and sure, lighting the path ahead. She was no longer the delicate bird caught in silk threads. She was the dawn breaking, the quiet fire that would change everything.
Far away, in the still darkness, a shadow moved with silent purpose. An assassin drawn to her light, unaware that the fragile princess was already weaving a new fate one spun from truth, courage, and the fierce pulse of a heart unbound.
And as the heavy doors whispered closed behind her, the night swallowed her whole. The veil lifted. The game began.
While far from the palace’s silver light, under a sky dark midnight velvet, he moved quietly a shadow wrapped in silence. Tall and lean, with eyes like storm clouds ready to break, his face was sharp, carved by years of cold nights and colder choices. Dark hair fell in uneven strands over a weathered cloak, blending him into the shadows he called home.
Every step was careful, every breath held like a secret.
His past was heavy, written in blood and loss. It followed him like a ghost, deeper than any scar. The cold night wrapped around him like armor, hiding the storm inside.
His eyes searched the dark for a sign a name, a face, a flicker of light. His target was a quiet rumor, a small flame burning where no one expected.
But inside him, something was changing. The assassin was used to shadows, but this light he hunted stirred a strange feeling something risky.
In the stillness between heartbeats, fate led him to a fragile yet resilient princess, weaving their destinies together.
As the night grew darker, their paths moved closer two fragile fires ready to meet, in a dance of secrets, betrayal, and a truth that could break them both.
