The Inferno's Aristocrat

Chapter 1: The Dawn of the 16th

“Young master Eglantine!”

The tired maid was desperate to wake our hero, she knew that if anything went wrong on a monumentous day like this she’d surely be fired.

“Good morning Miss Everly, what’s the matter...”

Eglantine Wickens was never a morning person, but as he looked at his favourite maid with groggy eyes realization set in and he instantly jolted awake.

“My Gifting is today! Why didn’t you wake me up earlier?” Eglantine inquired with a puzzled expression.

After profusely thanking Everly for waking him, and promptly shooing her out the door, he started his morning routine.

As he started walking down the stairs to greet his family for breakfast he was interjected by his father Hubert Wickens.

Hubert was a broad fellow, renowned for his combat skills and his gift, The Leader which allows him to telepathically send messages to those that deem him his superior, fit for someone of his status.

“There he is! Better late than never as they say!” Hubert Wickens exclaimed, almost beaming with pride.

“What’s for breakfast?”

“Only your favourite foods!” Hubert said proudly.

“I hope you weren’t the one who made it...” Eglantine said with the taste of his fathers last attempt still fresh.

However his worries were soon relieved as he turned the corner to the large dining area, and sees his mother Elizabeth Wickens cooking, a rare site considering their inhouse chef. Elizabeth was nothing short of a beauty, with long flowing golden hair and eyes as blue as the sky.

Her ablity is nothing modest aswell, The Faerie allows her to speak to animals as if they were humans. It goes to say however that with Eglantine’s more delicate stature he takes after his mother.

“Good morning Mother! I see you’re frying eggs this morning,” Eglantine said cheerfully

“Good morning sunshine,” Elizabeth said over her shoulder “I decided it would be appropiate considering how important today is.”

Eglantine quickly devoured breakfast and wasted no time pestering his parents to bring him to the Royal Church.

Luckily for our hero Churches are far more abundant on the 1st layer than any other layer of the Inferno, meaning they would arrive at their destination in no time.

“I can’t believe I”ll get to be the one walking inside today...” Eglantine said as he looks up at the marvelous marble structure before him.

The Church was a massive structure of elaborate spires and made almost completely of marble mined from the 3rd layer and brought up to the 1st.

However even so as they walked down the corridors the very centre of the church stood out the most, a stained glass dome with a single tablet at the centre.

“Place your hand on the stone when you are ready,” the priest stationed at the altar said to eglantine.

Wasting no time reaching out to the altar and placing his hand on the tablet, which was glowing in shades of blue and purple, he instantly felt a jolt of electricity almost as if the tablet was determining what kind of Gift he would recieve by coursing is energy through his body.

Finally all at once the glowing and flowing of electricity stopped and the altar let out an almost sparkly wave of light flowing out to the sides of the dome and up to the heavens through the sky light.

“W-what does it say...” Aglentine said out of breath but excited.

The priest did not seem as excited as him however. The priest covered his mouth almost as if he was scared to tell them.

“Well..?” Hubert said with an eyebrow raised.

“It says...” the priest finally squeaked through his timid demeanor.

“The Cockroach.”
