Chapter 1
The was a girl named Mia. She was beautiful, intelligent, and kind. To everyone around her, she was just an ordinary girl living in a bustling city.
But what no one knew was that Mia was a dreamer.
Every night, her dreams carried her to a place unlike anything on Earth—a world inhabited by beings that were not human, a place humanity wasn’t even supposed to know existed. Yet whenever she closed her eyes, that was where she found herself.
Like every other night, Mia dreamed of that mysterious place again. The dreams felt so vivid that, upon waking, she could have sworn she had truly been there. To her, that strange world felt just as real as the one she lived in.
As the days passed, Mia became obsessed with learning the name of the place she visited every night. She thought about it constantly, but no answer ever came.
Until one night.
Just as she drifted off to sleep, a single word echoed through her mind.
“Vaeloria.”
She whispered the name to herself as she closed her eyes.
The next morning, Mia slowly opened her eyes.
Something was wrong.
The ceiling above her wasn’t the one in her bedroom. The bed beneath her felt different. Confused, she sat up and looked around.
This wasn’t her room.
She rushed to the window, and the sight before her stole the breath from her lungs.
She wasn’t home.
She wasn’t even in her own world.
At first, Mia convinced herself she was still dreaming. But as the moments passed, everything felt too real. The cool floor beneath her feet, the scent in the air, the warmth of the morning sunlight—it couldn’t be a dream.
Then she noticed something else.
The place looked familiar.
It was the very place she had visited in her dreams.
Her dreams had been real.
Barely believing what had happened, Mia cautiously began exploring the enormous house. Everything about it was elegant. Massive golden-framed doors lined the halls, and every corner seemed to reflect wealth and beauty unlike anything she had ever seen.
As she wandered through the corridors, she noticed portraits hanging along the walls.
One family portrait caught her attention.
The people in it had earth-green skin and striking golden eyes. They wore flowing golden robes, standing proudly together as though they were an important family. They looked nothing like any humans Mia had ever seen.
Before she could examine the portrait any longer, voices echoed through the house.
They weren’t speaking any language she recognized.
Panic shot through her.
She hurried back toward the bedroom where she had woken up, hoping to hide before anyone saw her.
But it was too late.
Whoever was downstairs had already heard her.
Footsteps echoed up the staircase.
Slow.
Steady.
Getting closer.
Her heart pounded as she dove beneath the bed, desperately trying to quiet her breathing.
The footsteps stopped outside the room.
The door handle slowly turned.
The door creaked open.
From beneath the bed, Mia watched a pair of polished shoes step into the room.
One step.
Then another.
Until they stopped right beside the bed.
Before she could react, a hand reached underneath, grabbed her arm, and pulled her out.
Mia found herself staring directly into the same golden eyes she had seen in the family portrait.
A boy.
Or rather…
A Vaelorian boy.
Just as Mia was about to scream, he quickly covered her mouth with his hand.
He began speaking rapidly in a language she couldn’t understand.
Seeing the confusion in her eyes, he placed a finger against his lips, silently telling her not to make a sound.
Mia slowly nodded.
Satisfied that she understood, he carefully removed his hand.
Certain that he wasn’t about to hurt her, Mia finally took a proper look at him.
He had pointed ears, earth-green skin, midnight-black hair, and those captivating golden eyes that studied her just as curiously as she studied him.
He gestured for her to speak.
The first question that escaped her lips was the only one she could think of.
“What are you?”
Instead of answering, he frowned.
“What are you doing in my room?”
Mia froze.
She understood him.
Before she could even process how that was possible, he spoke again.
This time, his lips never moved.
“Why are you in my room?”
His voice echoed clearly inside her mind.
Startled, Mia instinctively looked around the room, trying to figure out where the voice had come from. Her attention was so focused on the impossible question that she failed to notice something even stranger.
The boy’s golden eyes had slowly changed…
They were now a deep, glowing purple.
As her racing mind searched for answers, she finally took in the room around her.
Dark gray walls.
Black furniture.
Golden curtains.
And hanging proudly on one wall…
A portrait of the very boy standing before her.
