The Last Train to Nowhere

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

Late at night, a young office worker boards the last train home but the passengers seem too quiet, too still. As the train keeps moving past her stop, she realizes that no one else is breathing… and that the sound she’s hearing isn’t the rails it’s whispers calling her name.

The Last Train to Nowhere

The platform was empty except for flickering lights and the echo of rain.

Mira checked her phone 11:58 PM. She sighed. The last train was coming.

When the train slid into the station, its doors opened with a soft hiss. She stepped inside. The air was cold, the kind that felt… heavy. There were only five passengers all sitting perfectly still, their faces turned down.

Mira sat near the door, scrolling through her phone. No signal. No announcements. Just the soft hum of the train as it pulled away.

Minutes passed.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Only the faint rhythm of wheels against the tracks.

Then she noticed something strange every reflection in the window faced her, even though no one had turned their head. She blinked. The reflections smiled.

Her heartbeat quickened. “Excuse me,” she whispered, but her voice fell flat, swallowed by the soundless air.

She glanced at her phone again. 12:16 AM. They should’ve reached her stop already. But the train didn’t slow down. The scenery outside was the same endless tunnel, lights flickering like dying stars.

Mira stood up and pressed the emergency button. Nothing. The passengers still didn’t move until one of them tilted their head ever so slightly toward her. A cracking sound followed, like bones twisting.

Their faces slowly turned up. Pale. Expressionless. Eyes black as void.

Then the lights went out.

She could hear breathing not hers.

A whisper near her ear:

“You shouldn’t have boarded the last train.”

When the lights flickered back, the seats were empty. The train doors slid open to a station she didn’t recognize covered in dust, with no lights, no people, no way out. The display screen above read:

“End of the Line.”

Her reflection in the glass smiled back at her again.

And this time… it waved.

Moral Message:

Sometimes, rushing through life makes us forget where we’re heading until it’s too late.

Not every “destination” is worth reaching if you’ve lost yourself along the way.
