The Café Owner

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

When Rowan returns to his hometown Cloverfield, he plans only to rest. Life in the city has grown repetitive, overstimulating, and distant, and staying with his grandmother feels like a temporary pause rather than a choice. Days in Cloverfield move differently. Mornings arrive softly, routines feel lighter, and a small café becomes part of his daily walk. Run by Lily, its quiet owner, the café offers more than coffee it offers stillness, music, and a space where nothing needs to be explained. As Rowan settles into village life, an unspoken connection forms between two people who understand the comfort of silence. Through ordinary moments, shared routines, and gentle conversations, what begins as familiarity slowly deepens into something neither of them rush to name. The Café Owner is a slice-of-life romance about slowing down, belonging, and the kind of love that grows quietly one day at a time. Lilacwhispperss

UNDER THE LEMON TREE

Nothing had changed in his daily life.Everyday was the same for him nothing new trains on time passengers boarding and deboarding.

City lights filling the corner the pace was fast and over stimulating for him Somewhere within it, boredom settled quietly, growing into the wish to do something else inside him more and more .

It was another Saturday.

He left early from his office and decided to be on a beach for a while grabbing a canned coffee in his hand.

He decided to walk watching the sea as the sun sets. Being in stagnation he decided to get rest for a while. He stood there longer than he meant to, watching the waves move without urgency. The city had taught him to keep moving. The ocean asked nothing of him at all.

Later that evening

He got a call from his Grandma Rosemary,

He answered the call and said "Hello Rosy, how are you?"

She took a deep breath “I miss you Rowan”,she said softly .The lemon tree has started growing lemons also ,you should come visit .

The memory returned.

How he used to sit under the tree and watch the leaves sway with the wind, count the lemons and collect the lemons with his grandma. The thought settled something in him. He needed a break, and the timing felt right..

The next morning bags were packed .At the station he waited as the train arrived and carried him away from the city until he reached his hometown CloverField . The air felt lighter. He stopped at a fruit stall and decided to buy watermelon and took a bus home.

Rosemary was waiting

As he arrived she took him in a warm embrace and that night the both talk until sleep found them both about nothing important, and everything that mattere.

(Lilacwhisperrs:. Rowan hadn’t realized how much he needed that simplicity until now.)

jo987_123: This is a good story, but it needs a good editor to go through this iteration and fix the mistakes. The pov changes from 1st person to 3rd person, often, and sometimes within one sentence. It needs a liberal sprinkling of punctuation marks throughout, and a decision needs to be made about the char...
