Chapter 1 Les jours calmes avant la tempête

Le vent venait du fjord et frappait les toits de Nordhavn. Emil Aas se leva, ouvrit la fenêtre et inspira l’air frais du matin. Les rues étaient calmes. Des cafés ouvraient, une guitare jouait quelque part, et un enfant riait au loin.

Il mit son manteau et sortit. Le ciel était gris, mais le soleil passait par endroits. Ces matins-là, tout semblait normal, presque fragile.

« T’as vu la nouvelle affiche, Emil ? » demanda Sigrid Strand en passant. Elle avait son sac de guitare et un sourire tranquille.

« Non… encore un avertissement du maire sur les pénuries ? » répondit Emil.

Sigrid haussa les épaules. « Peut-être. Mais toi, t’as l’air sérieux. Comme toujours. »

Ragnar Bjørnstad, assis sur un banc, leva les yeux de son carnet. « Tu sais, Emil… Nordhavn n’est peut-être pas aussi tranquille qu’on croit. »

« Arrête ton cinéma, Ragnar. C’est juste un matin froid. »

Emil sentit un frisson qu’il ne pouvait pas expliquer. Il vit Ingrid Haldorsen courir le long du quai. Même dans la routine, elle semblait forte et concentrée.

Au marché, des rumeurs circulaient : grèves, coupures d’électricité, tensions dans certains quartiers. Des affiches déchirées pendaient aux murs. Emil se demanda combien de secrets se cachaient derrière chaque sourire.

« Je parie que quelqu’un va encore se faire arrêter pour protester, » dit Ragnar en regardant un petit attroupement.

Emil réfléchit : rester à l’écart ou aider ? Il n’avait pas de réponse. Mais il savait que parfois, il fallait choisir, même quand c’est difficile.

Soudain, un coup de sirène retentit. La foule se figea. Emil leva les yeux vers le ciel. Rien n’avait changé… mais quelque chose venait. Le calme du matin n’était qu’une illusion. Nordhavn ne serait plus jamais la même.
