Prólogo


Si alguien me hubiera preguntado hace un año cómo imaginaba mi vida, les habría dicho que todo iba a ser fácil. Terminar el colegio con mis amigas, seguir viviendo en el mismo barrio, perderme en alguna plaza por ahí, seguir yendo a recital de mis bandas favoritas. Nada fuera de lo común. Nada que me hiciera sentir distinta.

Pero todo cambió. Me mudé a Villa Gesell, una de las costas del país donde el mar tiene un color que nunca vi en ningún otro lado (en realidad si), pero este era más profundo y silencioso, donde la bruma se mezcla entre los pinos y los médanos de arena, como si algo se fuera a esconder o mejor dicho cosas que no debía ver. Cada ola traía un rumor, cada viento una sensación que me ponía la piel de gallina.

El colegio era distinto. Las caras eran desconocidas y los gestos amables a veces parecían un juego que no entendía. Algunas miradas duraban muchísimo, otras se desviaba demasiado rápido. Y había movimientos, apenas notables, que me hacían sentir que no estaba sola, aunque no hubiera nadie cerca.

Con cada día que pasaba ahí, notaba detalles que antes habría ignorado. Sombras que se pasaban por los árboles del bosque, huellas que no parecían de ningún animal, pasos silenciosos en los pasillos que estaban completamente vacíos. El aire mismo parecía sentirse con secretos que nadie quería ver, y yo empezaba a darme cuenta de que estaba entrando en un mundo distinto al mío, donde las reglas que conocía dejaban de ser usadas.

El mar guarda secretos. Algunos duermen, otros parecen esperar o esperarme. La luna cada viernes se mostraba roja sobre el agua, y su reflejo hacía que todo se viera distinto, casi irreal. La arena abajo mis pies parecía contener pedazos de historias que nadie contaba, y la bruma se movía como si tuviera intención propia.

Y había algo en ellos, en los chicos del colegio, algunos demasiado rectos, otros con gestos demasiado preciosos, con miradas que parecían medir cada xosa que hacía. No podía saber qué eran, ni cómo funcionaba todo eso, pero sentía que cada encuentro, cada mirada, me llevaba hacia algo que no podía ignorar ni aunque quisiera hacerlo.

Algo en el aire me decía que no era casualidad que estuviera ahí, que cada sombra, cada voz que escuchaba por ahí, me estaban preparando para algo que no podía imaginar. Y que mi vida, como yo la conocía no iba a volver a hacer la misma nunca más.
