The Guilt Consumes me

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

At first glance, everything feels normal. School halls, random conversations, people just trying to get through the day. GCM is a slow-burn story told in first person, following people dealing with the consequences of their choices — both past and present. Regret, guilt, anger, and the ways people sometimes sabotage themselves without realizing it. Some mistakes stay longer than expected. And sometimes moving forward isn’t about fixing everything — it’s just learning to live with what happened.

Still at School

2025

Woke up on a very casual day.

Already way past 6 a.m., still too early. The cold atmosphere sent shivers down my spine.

My body was so exhausted I could feel it being pulled back to bed.

It’s been only a couple of weeks since school started.

I’m getting to know people.

The syllabus already looked huge.

The book is as big as my pillow, except it isn’t fun to lie on it.

On my way to school, I realised the sky was beautiful. Are those nimbus clouds? They look huge and soft.

Birds flying in the vastness caught my attention briefly.

My 10th grade was something I hate.

I was a ghost there. I could see them, but they never noticed my existence. It never mattered.

As I reached the school, I realised something.

The bell had not rung, yet it should have.

I gazed at the mountains far from the school.

Students were fighting for their spot.

The couples hiding at the blind spot of the camera caught my attention.

They disgust me. I don’t really hate them personally; it’s the kissing and holding hands

I told myself, why be lovers if you can be friends? Of course, I’ve never been in a relationship before.

I’m jealous.

But maybe I’m right.

Looking down, I saw one of my classmates. She caught my attention on the very first day.

I’m sure I’ve seen her somewhere, but where?

Her face—it’s disgustingly familiar.

And it pisses me off.

She’s not my previous classmate.

Who is it, though?

I stared at her. I hope she doesn’t notice me.

She is pretty.

Or I’m biased.

And I hate that I noticed that.
