Summary

Way far away in the vast space, aliens have been keeping various living creatures in a “zoo”. Their latest specimen? A Vampire. As it turns out, keeping a Vampire as a zoo animal is far more complicated than it seems.

Chapter 1

“LET. GO. OF ME!” a young man screamed as he was hauled into a spaceship by a group of grayish green aliens.

“Fresh specimen… It will be interesting to watch this one,” one alien notes, a thin eyelid briefly closing vertically across its soulless black eyes.

“I’m NOT a specimen!” the guy yelled, but the others tightened their grip, long slender arms wrapping around his like strangling vines.

“Subject appears to have removable flesh,” one alien notes, tugging on the prisoner’s shirt.

“That’s a shirt, you dingus. So much for intelligent life,” another alien scolds.

The inside of the spaceship is exactly as you would expect. The walls appear to be metallic silver plating covered at set intervals by flashing red, green, and blue lights. A column in the center of the ship seems to be bubbling violently with some sort of gooey substance, like a lava lamp, but much faster. Around the perimeter, there are control panels with all sorts of flashing lights and above them, dark windows.

“Don’t worry, specimen… We have a cage for you in our zoo,” another alien murmurs, patting the terrified guy’s head. “This is merely our transport!”

“I say we remove his skin!” the alien who was tugging on the shirt declares.

“Ahem. Again. That is a shirt…” the other alien replies, huge eyes suddenly squishing down into a thin horizontal bar. “But… We COULD remove it.”

“Please don’t do that! I like wearing clothes!” the guy wails.

The aliens disregard the guy’s wishes. They strip him down, leaving him cold and vulnerable. They ogle at him, poking and prodding. The ship then flies so fast it appears to just vanish in the blink of an eye, arriving at a MUCH large ship in space.

“Here we are, your cage!” one alien says, pushing the naked man into a 432 square foot cage.

“CAN I HAVE MY CLOTHES BACK?!” the guy wails.

The aliens don’t reply, they just shut and lock the cage. Three sides of the cage appear to be hard gray cement and the fourth side is a large thick pane of glass, too hard to break through. There is a bed, a rug, a toilet, a couch, and a fake window which makes it look like there is a sunny floral meadow just outside. The guy grumbles and strips the bedsheet off, wrapping it around himself like a robe.

“I can’t BELIEVE I got abducted! Dang it!” the guy wails, banging uselessly on the glass in an attempt to break free.

“Specimen… Very peculiar…” one alien notes, still watching. “Very resourceful…”

“Oh shut up!” the guy yells, snarling at the alien.

“He can hear through the glass?” the alien wonders.

“Yeah I can! I’m a Vampire! I have super hearing!” the guy reveals.

“Specimen… Vampire…” the alien notes, typing something on a hologram pad. “We will continue watching this one and making notes.”

“Note this!” the Vampire yells and presses his butt against the glass.

“Noted,” the alien says with a nod.

The days pass and the aliens never cease to be amazed by the Vampire. There are other creatures in other cages, but the awe and wonder of a brand new creature is keeping the tourists staring in at the Vampire. Unsure what to feed him, the aliens have begun testing random foods and drinks from various planets. The Vampire dines, but doesn’t seem THAT impressed by the options.

“I would like to take a look inside of our new specimen,” one alien notes. “We’ve split specimens open and examined their insides without killing them before, so this shouldn’t be THAT big of a deal.”

“I would prefer it if you DIDN’T look through my insides,” the Vampire replies, still dressed in just a bedsheet.

“It will be quick and painless. I assure you. You are our specimen. We do not wish harm upon you,” the alien says, blinking its weird thin eyelids.

The Vampire doesn’t get a say in the matter. Before he can escape, he’s quickly injected with a strong sedative and passes out. The alien then carries its prize to the examination room. The other aliens gather around gleefully.

The Vampire is then strapped down on the examination table, bedsheet loin cloth removed. With a sharp precision tool, they slice through the Vampire’s tough abdominal skin. This makes a HORRIBLE screeching noise like scraping a car. Inside, well, the internal organs seem very human, and yet not.

“Let me see, let me see,” one alien says, stretching its long neck to peer over the shoulder of the other aliens.

“See inside! Very neat!” the surgeon notes. “There appears to be a rather large stomach… I wonder, how far do you think this expands?”

“Test it! Test it! Test it! Test it!” the other aliens cheer.

“Okay, I will give you guys the show you have come to see,” the surgeon says, huge dark eyes sparkling.

The surgeon hurries and grabs a pump. One end is then shoved down the sleeping Vampire’s throat. The alien surgeon nearly cuts his fingers on the Vampire’s fangs in the process. With a press of a flashing colorful button, the stomach begins to fill up.

“OOOH! AHHHH!” the aliens exclaim.

With the abdominal cavity open, there is plenty of room for the stomach to expand. It grows, pressing on the intestines a little, but also expanding out past the walls of flesh that were parted. All the while, the Vampire has no idea what is being done to him, trapped in the dark void of sleep. After some time, the surgeon shuts off the machine.

“Wouldn’t want to accidentally kill the specimen. It is for our entertainment. How can we be entertained by it if it dies?” the surgeon asks.

The other aliens begrudgingly agree. They all are invited to touch the inflated stomach before it is deflated. The Vampire’s stomach can hold MANY gallons of blood, but the aliens do not know this. Carefully, the stomach is deflated and shoved back into place.

“Alright, what’s next?!” one alien cries out.

Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me. How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...
