Author’s Note

Writing Behind the Hill has been a journey through the darkest corners of human pain and the resilient light of hope. This story is more than just a thriller about spies and revenge; it is a tribute to the "Bella" among us those who have been pushed to their breaking point by life’s cruelties but still find the strength to rise from the ashes.

The transformation of Lala-e-Gul into Bella was a difficult path to trace. It reflects the harsh reality of how trauma can harden a heart, and how love,e not just romantic, but the love of a loyal companion like Mogra is often the only thing that can soften it again. Through Shijin, I wanted to explore the idea that duty doesn’t always mean following orders; sometimes, the greatest duty we have is to protect the humanity of another person.

This book deals with heavy themes of loss and disability, but my hope is that you find beauty in the healing process. Thank you for walking this treacherous mountain path with Bella and Shijin. I hope their story stays with you long after you turn the final page.
