CHAPTER 1: The Quiet After Forever
✦ MORNING Sharvika & Piyanshveer’s House The house still smelled like flowers. Faint marigold. A hint of mehendi. And something warm—like home.
“WHO ATE MY CHOCOLATE??”
“It was not me.”
“It was definitely you.”
“I would never betray you like that.”
Sharvika didn’t even look up. She stirred her coffee slowly. Calm. Unbothered. “You’re all embarrassing,” she said. “You married into this,” Laveshika replied, walking in.
A pause. Then— Laughter. Dhyansh flopped onto the couch dramatically.
“I miss when life was simple.”
“You mean three days ago?” Piyanshveer asked.
“Yes. Before responsibilities. Before betrayal.”
“You’re talking about chocolate.”
“I’m talking about trust.”
Navirika stood near the dining table. Arms crossed. Watching. “Buy your own chocolate,” she said flatly.
“See?” Dhyansh pointed at her.
“This is why I have trust issues.” She didn’t respond. Just turned away. Piyanshveer noticed. Not the words. But the tone. Too clipped. Too controlled.
He frowned slightly. “You okay?” he asked casually. Navirika looked at him. Held his gaze— A second too long. Then smiled. “Yeah. Why?”
“Nothing.” But it wasn’t nothing. Because her eyes— Didn’t match.
✦ LATER
Music played softly in the background. Laveshika scrolling through pictures. Dhyansh arguing with no one in particular. “Delete that,” he said.
“No.”
“I look bad.”
“You always look bad.”
“Wow. Toxic.”
Everyone laughed. Except— Navirika. She was there. But not really. Her phone buzzed. Once. She glanced at it. Quick. Almost instinctive. Then locked it again. Dhyansh saw that. Raised a brow. Interesting.
✦ AFTERNOON
People started leaving. Laveshika hugged Sharvika. “Call me later.”
“I will.”
Dhyansh stretched. “I’m staying.”
“No, you’re not,” Piyanshveer said.
“I practically live here.”
“You practically don’t.”
Navirika picked up her bag. “Bye.” Simple. No extra words. “Hey,” Dhyansh called out. She turned slightly.
“You’re leaving already?” A pause. “Yeah.” “That’s rude.” “Deal with it.” And she left.
Dhyansh watched her go. Not smiling. Not joking. Just— Watching.
✦ EVENING
The city felt quieter now. Lights flickering on. Cars passing. Navirika walked into her apartment. Alone. The door clicked shut behind her. Silence. No laughter. No chaos. Just— Stillness. Her place was clean. Too clean. Minimal furniture. Neutral tones. Nothing unnecessary. No photos. No memories on display. Like no one really lived there. She placed her bag down. Took a deep breath.
Then picked up her phone.
The message was still there.
Unread. She opened it. Unknown: “You disappeared.” Her jaw tightened.
She typed. Slowly. Navirika: “I had to.” Typing… Unknown: “This isn’t over.” A pause.
Her fingers hovered. Then— She replied. “It never is.” She locked her phone. Walked to the window. Looked out. Her reflection stared back.
Not soft. Not calm. Something sharper. Something colder. And somewhere between the warmth she just left and the silence she returned to— Navirika became someone else entirely
But little did she know, In a world that believed the story was over— Hers had only just begun.
