Prologue

Eight years.

Eight long, impossible years.

Matteo Rodriguez had vanished from her life like a shadow at sunrise, leaving Amara with nothing but questions, memories… and a heart that refused to heal. She had thought she would never see him again—thought the world had moved on without him in it.

And yet…

Here he was.

Seattle.

A new city. A new life. Or so it seemed.

Amara had rebuilt herself slowly, brick by brick. Career. Friends. Independence. Strength. She had learned how to stand on her own, how to breathe without him, how to exist in a world where Matteo Rodriguez was nothing more than a memory.

But she had never truly let go.

Not completely.

Not while the memory of that one night—that one choice—still lingered in the quiet corners of her mind.

And Matteo…

He had changed too.

Or maybe he hadn’t.

Maybe he had just returned with the same heart—only now more cautious, more guarded, weighed down by regret and responsibility.

Because time doesn’t erase everything.

Some things stay with you.

Some people never really leave.

Life has a way of bringing people back together.

Sometimes through love.

Sometimes through chaos.

And now, eight years later, Amara and Matteo were about to discover just how strong love could be…

…and just how messy life can get when the past refuses to stay buried.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
