Prologue
Miles POV
I was walking to my next class, hands in my jean pockets, keeping my eyes off everyone’s glares. I’ve just ‘transferred’ to this new college and I’m still trying to find my place especially with the circle of family I’m now bound to.
My steps quickened knowing that I was heading to my favourite place, the lab. I’ve always been interested in microbiology. I find it thoroughly intriguing and amazing that such small organisms can do such big things. Maybe I see myself in them. I hope that one day this insignificant lone wolf can become something bigger and better than what I am now.
My heart quickened, my senses going crazy. I could smell something, it was a new scent, one of pure attraction, it made my skin tingle and the need to find it was so overwhelming I began slamming everyone into the walls either side of me as I sprinted towards it.
Completely consumed by this heavenly scent I completely forgot to tone down my wolf’s speed and strength, with one shove I could easily break the bone of a human and that would no doubt lead to suspicions as to how or why a human could possess such power.
Without looking back to the chaos I left in the corridor I pushed open the double doors which led to the courtyard and instantly stopped in my tracks. The smell was so strong, the desire unbearable. My eyes scanned the courtyard for my mate, the wolf that I would be utterly and completely connected to for the rest of my life.
I’ve never seen anyone so beautiful. She was sitting under a tree drawing in a sketchbook, her dark auburn wavy hair falling on the pad as her delicate hands moved the pencil across the page. Everything about her was perfect, I took a small step towards her away from the doors that I was still holding open with both hands.
Her eyes and forehead crinkled, she can sense it too and a smile starts forming on my face knowing that I’m going to be looking into the eyes of my mate for the very first time. The she-wolf that I am destined to be soul mates with.
Her eyes looked up and instantly hit my gaze. I gasp. My body begins to shake not knowing how to handle what it’s just seen and a quiet whimper leaves my mouth. I fight my instinct to hold her and force myself to turn away and run in the opposite direction of the smell that made my body come alive. How can this be? She’s a human…
