Lloid's Big Awesome Adventure | Hatters

Act 1:

Scene 1:

{An old, small shop, well everything looks old here at Hatters.}

Apel: Hello, anyone here?

{A tall but slim man opens the door.}

Mr. Villa: Yeah, what are you here for?

Apel: I’m here for the job.

Mr. Villa: Which job?

Apel: The job was listed on the poster, in front of the mall.

Mr. Villa: Oh, It was, but we aren’t hiring anymore. And because, you know, recent shortage. We stopped needing employees when we stopped having customers.

Apel: (noticing the shop is dusty, shelves half empty) Are you doing okay?

Mr. Villa: Seen better days.

Apel: Yeah. We all have. Anyways sorry to bother you.

Mr. Villa: No, it’s ok. I haven’t had anyone to talk to. Also, you heard about the news.

Apel: Which one?

Mr. Villa: That someone is trying to gain full control of the town. He promised that if he was in charge he would be able to fix all the town’s problems.

Apel: Oh, yeah, I heard that one.

Mr. Villa: But don’t trust him. MOSTLY because he came out of nowhere with an entire army working under him.

Apel: It is scary, buuut maybe he is here to help us. And it is not like the town can get any worse.

Mr. Villa: Nothing yet. Maybe the rumors are wrong and he really is here to help. But we watch. We pay attention. And we don’t hand over the keys to this town just because someone smiles and makes promises.

Apel: Yeah... I’ll keep that in mind. I should go, still got more places to check. See you later.

Mr. Villa: See you later. And good luck.

{Apel leaves the place. Going outside and seeing the old town again. He walks seeing people and children trying their best to get by with life. Building wearing down. Tension with the people. Some are getting ready to leave for good. A kid runs up to him.}

Kid: Sir, you have any spare food?

Apel: {Look at the Kid who seem to not have eaten for a long time.} No, but I have this (Hands the kid some spare change).

Kid: Thanks

Apel: No problem, also if-

{The kid runs off looking where he can get food.}

Apel: Well, at least he has energy to run.

{Apel decides to walk down the street a bit more. Then goes to the few structures still somewhat in good condition. Inside, there is a small group of people surrounding a box with lights. This box is called a TV. Currently it is playing the news broadcast.}

Scene 2:

News reporter: Hello I’m here reporting in Hatters and the person standing next to me is Lloid.

Lloid: Hey everyone! It’s great to be here,

News reporter: So, I have a few questions for you that the town is asking.

Lloid: Of course, ask me anything.

News reporter: There are rumors that you’ve done this before at other places, same story. But nobody can seem to confirm it. So tell me, why this town, and how do you plan to help it?

Lloid: Well the rumors are true! I have helped other towns before, and honestly that’s exactly why I’m here, trying my best to help no matter what.

News reporter: Some people are concerned about your army. A lot of armed men for someone who just wants to help.

Lloid: Army is a strong word, but I’ll take it. But let’s be real. Someone out there is blocking those paths, cutting off the town’s supplies. My team is trained, organized, and ready to handle exactly that kind of problem. Every solution comes with a cost so that we can help more people.

News reporter: If so, why do you need total control over the town?

Lloid: Well… I’m not gonna remove all of your issues. That’s just a temporary fix. If I become the leader of this town then I can help the people living here. Someone has to take responsibility for fixing it. I… don’t have all the answers. But I’m trying. And eventually I’ll find it.

News reporter: And perhaps that is exactly the kind of leadership this town has been waiting for.

Scene 3:

Vice Mayor: OK, are you actually considering making this guy to replace you?

Mayor: Well, I don’t want to either. But to be real, what else we going to do? Let them starve?

Vice Mayor: He may have good terms but that doesn’t mean his intentions are good. He shows up with an army, promises to fix everything, and asks for total control in return, but people look happy for that reason. I’m beginning to believe people always look happiest right before things go wrong.

Mayor: The town is struggling. People are scared. At least he’s offering something.

Vice Mayor: I’ve seen this before. And I didn’t stop it last time. And it is not just that. You saw that interview. Every answer was smooth, every word was rehearsed. He didn’t slip once. You know who doesn’t slip? Someone who’s done this before and knows exactly what to say to make people stop asking questions.

Mayor: He said the rumors were true, that he has helped other towns.

Vice Mayor: He said that himself. That’s the only source we have. We haven’t heard from those towns. We haven’t seen proof. Just his words, his smile, and his army standing right behind him. (lowers voice) When’s the last time a man with soldiers needed you to just trust him?

Mayor: I think you need to take a step back and remember we are out of options. I already made a few calls. The meeting is set.

Vice Mayor: Wait, WHAT MEETING?

Mayor: Tomorrow morning. I’m signing the agreement.

Vice Mayor: {turning to leave, almost to himself} We just can’t let the wrong people get their hands on the town. And if you don’t see that, then that just means I need to fix it with my own hands.

{Vice Mayor leaves the room slamming the door shut. Leaving silence in the room}

Scene 4:

{A few days later, Lloid had been given control over Hatters. He had brought many supplies to the town. The town was starving. and Lloid throws a perfect feast! This scene would be the feast taking place for thanking Lloid, probably some people still hate him.}

Lloid: Hello Everyone! I have to say, when I first arrived, I wasn’t sure how things would go. But look at this. Look at all of you. (genuinely smiling) This is why I do what I do.

{The crowd cheers. Tables are full. Children are laughing. For the first time this year, the town feels alive.}

Lloid: I know some of you were scared when I arrived. But I hope tonight shows you that I meant every word. This town deserves better.

{Across the courtyard, hidden in the shadow of someone’s doorway. He isn’t eating. He isn’t celebrating.}

{The Vice Mayor moves. Silent. Cutting through the celebrating crowd like a shadow. Nobody notices. Everyone is looking at each other, laughing, drinking.}

{The crowd turns confused as the Vice Mayor’s arm swings.}

{At the same moment someone rushes in. They slam onto Lloid slamming him from the side, throwing him out of the way of the blade. It ends up catching them across the side instead. They drop. Hard.}

{The crowd turns. Confused. And then they see who is on the ground. Apel is lying on the ground.}
