A Dream
I was staring down at the wall clock. It’s 11:30 p.m.
I’m definitely going to sleep on this sofa. This house really scares me. Hopefully, Mom and Dad will be back by tomorrow morning.
They should understand that their daughter is a scared cat, so I clutched the blanket tighter to my body.
“Ting-tong!”
I stopped breathing for a second. Who could it be at my door so late? What if there’s a thief or a killer?
Before I could say anything, the person started tapping on the bell continuously. After ignoring it for a few minutes, I decided to check. Slowly, I opened the door, only to find a little girl.
She was in a hospital gown, looking around as if she was searching for something or someone. Her skin looked pale, her tired eyes, messy brown hair, and there was a small orange box in her hand.
“Hello, who are you?”
She turned to me and looked up before she said,
“Can I come inside? I think I’m in the wrong year.”
Then her lips curved into a smile that didn’t look like a child’s smile.
