The Beginning

"There is a beauty in science, something that lots of people fail to realize or care about. Finding out how the world works, what we are able to do. We have created vaccines, medicines. I want to do more."

The notes on a page was written in clean handwriting, left in a laboratory, stained by chemicals. A scientist was busy over by a large, lit up test tube, studying a small animal that was floating inside and connected to cords. It was amazing what science could do, this man was standing infront of the first recreated dinosaur. That he made. He owned. Dr. Dorian, he isn't a well known scientist, but he knew he would make a name for himself soon. His dark brown hair wasn't brushed properly, and he wore a lab coat that was just a bit too long for him. "The Scientist that brought back dinosaurs," he enthusiastically spoke to a colleague, dressed in a similar outfit, but more fitted, as she walked into the lab, hair pulled up into a ponytail. She nodded, walking up beside him to stare into the tube. What Dorian described as beautiful she described as freaky, something that shouldn't be here. "If you like it. . ." She scribbled down notes on her clipboard. "Of course!" Dorian beamed, this was his lifes work! "Iris, dear," He started, "You must understand how advanced this is." He gestured with both his arms out to his lab, to the animal. "Who else has this?"

"No one."

"Correct!" He nudged Iris with his elbow, "I made it, and you helped with everything else." He grinned, the man was very passionate about his project, Iris noticed. She was just his assistant, it was amazing what he did, yes, but she couldn't share the same feelings. She thought about the multiple ways this could go wrong, not for them, but the animal. Could it truly survive in this enviroment? Had Dorian even considered that? He loved the thing, but he didn't consider consequences. That is why she is there, he is brilliant, the facility wouldn't have any advancements without him, but he needed pointers. Someone to tell him to think ahead. Iris turned back to him, her labcoat swung with the movement."sir, I--"

"I really enjoy your presence." Dorian suddenly cut her off, though not on purpose, he didn't hear her start talking, she was too quiet. But Iris was more focused on that comment, it was extremely unexpected entirely. He was never one to compliment others verbally, you would know if he liked you around, but he never outright say it. "You have been my best colleague."

She stopped what she was going to say, too shocked and she felt a little bad. Maybe a talk about the consequences can happen later, when they aren't working. When he wasn't so...excited. They are only in the early stages, they do not have to worry about it, it wasn't really...Alive yet, was it? She glanced back at the test tube, it didn't look alive, it just floated there, almost sad looking. Nothing to stress about. Iris watched as he went on about his creation, how wonderful it was. He is very confident in his work.

And she appreciated that.

The dinosaur was small, about rat sized, it's eyes were stuck open, staring. It was truly unnerving if you don't work there. At this stage it was difficult to tell what type of species it was for her. "Raptor," Dorian called it, no specifics, he didn't call it a velociraptor, Micro, Utah. Just Raptor. Unhelpful, but she didn't want to ask why. Dorian didn't reveal things until he was completely sure they were ready . . . this was far from it in his eyes. People Normal people, would be telling everybody, about the progress and make money off of it. Not him, no. He would wait until it was time, nobody knows about this until then. Dorian was very insistent on this.

"Come now dear, I am heading for dinner," Dorian took off his coat, draping it over his chair. "Please come with, we will discuss more." Without looking to see if Iris is following, he headed to the door, and she followed.

He took them to a fine diner, nothing very fancy, but the food was good. Warm lights and soft music, the bell jingled as people entered and left. Quiet murmuring and the clanks of utensils on plates are the only other sounds. They discussed the project quietly, how the people would love it. Iris brought up her concerns about the enviroment. He took the feedback well, and assigned her the role of 'keeping it alive', ...after it becomes alive.

This meeting lasted an hour before they parted ways for the night.
