Chapter 1: The Canvas of Tomorrow

The golden hues of the setting sun painted the Karachi sky in shades of amber and purple, casting long shadows across the familiar grounds of Karachi University. It was the evening of the farewell party—a bittersweet milestone. After four long years of coding, late-night assignment submissions, and endless exams, they were finally graduating as Software Engineers. But tonight, nobody was thinking about algorithms or degrees.

Momin stood amidst a loud group of laughing friends, though his eyes kept drifting. He looked incredibly sharp, wearing a tailored black suit—a stark black coat over a matching black shirt and trousers. On his wrist, the sleek silver of his Rolex watch caught the last rays of the sun. It wasn’t just the watch; everything about Momin screamed luxury. Belonging to one of the city's wealthiest families, his father owned a massive chain of luxury car showrooms across Pakistan. Success and comfort were handed to him by birth, yet his posture remained relaxed and humble as he leaned in to laugh at a friend's joke.

Right beside him stood Aleena.

In a crowd full of heavy, glamorous outfits, she had chosen elegant simplicity. She wore a simple red dress that flowed beautifully around her, contrasting sharply with Momin’s dark attire. The color brought out the natural warmth in her face, and without even trying, she looked absolutely breathtaking. But unlike Momin, Aleena’s world was entirely different. She came from a humble, middle-class family where every rupee mattered. Her father worked tirelessly as a simple clerk, managing a tight household budget to ensure his daughter could get a proper education.

As their friends talked about the future, job interviews, and moving on, Momin casually looked down at Aleena. For a second, the noise of the university ground faded into the background. They were standing together, surrounded by the people they grew up with, but the silent contrast between his privileged world and her modest reality hung quietly in the air as they faced the end of an era.

Suddenly, the university speakers roared to life, and a loud cheer erupted from the crowd. The host on stage announced the surprise performer of the evening—Atif Aslam. Within seconds, the atmosphere completely changed. The lights shifted towards the main stage, and the familiar, soulful intro of his music began to play.

"Oh my god, Atif Aslam!" one of their friends shouted in excitement.

Almost instantly, the group of friends standing with Momin and Aleena rushed towards the stage to get a closer view, joining the massive wave of students running forward. Within a minute, the university ground—which was crowded just moments ago—emptied out near the trees. Everyone had gathered around the stage, lost in the magical voice singing in the distance.

But Momin and Aleena didn’t move.

As the crowd disappeared, the space around them felt suddenly vast and quiet. The distant music and cheers created a beautiful background, but right here, under the fading light, they were left completely alone. Momin turned his head slightly, looking down at Aleena, who was still standing by his side. The noise of the world had faded, and the silence between them was ready to be broken.

Momin stepped a little closer, his movements slow and deliberate. Breaking the distance between them, he gently reached out and took Aleena’s hand in his. His touch was warm and soft. As she looked up, he was already looking down at her, a quiet, affectionate smile playing on his lips.

Aleena smiled back, but true to her nature, the sudden intimacy made her blush. She shifted her gaze slightly, her timeless shyness taking over as her heart raced.

"I'm sorry," Momin said softly, his voice rich and deep. "I couldn't properly compliment you earlier because everyone was crowding around us. But Aleena... you look absolutely beautiful tonight."

He paused for a moment, letting his words sink in. In the background, Atif Aslam was setting the stage on fire with a powerful performance, the crowd's roars echoing through the night. But between them, time seemed to slow down.

"Do you know what you look like whenever you get dressed up like this?" Momin asked, his eyes locked onto hers.

Aleena looked up at him, stayed quiet for a few seconds, and then gently shook her head with a shy smile, waiting for his answer.

Momin let out a soft, low chuckle. "Alright, let me tell you. Whenever you get dressed up... you look exactly like you belong to me."

Aleena’s cheeks flushed a deep shade of crimson. She looked down, trying to hide her face, and softly hit his arm. "You always do this," she whispered, her voice filled with sweet shyness. "You always find a way to make me blush like this."

Momin’s smile widened, his eyes softening as he looked at her. "So what if I do?" he replied smoothly, leaning in a little closer. "After all, you are my baby girl."

Just as the words left his mouth, a sudden, cool breeze swept across the university ground. The sharp gust of wind caught Aleena’s long hair, blowing a few stray strands across her beautiful face and covering her eyes.

Without a second thought, Momin raised his free hand. His movements were incredibly gentle, filled with pure love, as his fingers softly brushed the hair away from her face and tucked it behind her ear. His touch lingered on her cheek for a split second, his eyes locked onto hers, making the noisy world around them disappear completely.

Time flew by as Momin and Aleena stayed lost in their own little world. A few minutes later, a familiar voice broke the silence.

"So, if you two are finally done with your romantic moment, do I have permission to stand here with you?"

They turned to see Zain walking towards them with a teasing smirk. Zain was Momin’s best friend, a bond that went all the way back to their early school days. But as he reached them, his playful smile faded into something softer, a bit bittersweet. "Because honestly... after tonight, who knows where any of us will end up?" he added, trying to keep his tone light.

Momin laughed, shaking his head at his friend's dramatic entry. "You are never going to leave me alone, are you?" Momin replied, giving him a look. "I swear, even if I go to hell, I know I'll find you standing right behind me."

Hearing Momin's classic reply, Aleena couldn't control her laughter, covering her mouth as she giggled.

Zain rolled his eyes playfully at her. "Sure, go ahead and laugh. Enjoy it while it lasts," he joked.

But beneath all the teasing, the emotion of leaving university was real. Momin stepped forward, and the two childhood best friends pulled each other into a warm, tight hug, realizing that a beautiful chapter of their lives was finally coming to an end.

While Momin and Zain continued talking and sharing a few more laughs, Aleena stood quietly by the side, her eyes fixed on Momin with pure affection. A little later, the farewell party finally came to an end. The ground began to clear as students hugged, took their last pictures, and started heading towards their homes. Zain walked with them to the parking area, waved a warm goodbye to Momin and Aleena, and got into his car.

Momin and Aleena walked together towards his sleek, white Land Cruiser. Reaching the passenger side, Momin gracefully pulled the front door open for her. With a charming smile, he bowed slightly and said, "Hop in, madam. Your driver is at your service."

Aleena giggled, playfully tapping him on the shoulder before stepping into the car. Momin closed the door gently, walked around to the driver's side, and started the engine. Soon, they were cruising through the busy roads of Karachi, heading towards Aleena's neighborhood. The drive was filled with a comfortable, quiet silence as both of them processed the reality of their graduation.

Finally, Momin pulled up right outside Aleena’s house. He turned off the engine, turned to look at her, and softy said, "Go inside safely. Now that graduation is officially over, I am going to talk to my dad about our rishta very soon."

Before she could reply, he gently took her hand and pressed a soft kiss onto it. Aleena’s heart swelled with love. She looked at him warmly, smiled, and said, "I will be waiting."

With a final goodbye, she stepped out of the car and walked through her front door. Momin watched until she was safely inside, then restarted his Land Cruiser and drove off into the night, heading back to his home in DHA Phase 8.
