Summary

When Hollywood comes to Willow Creek, Hazel Small is too busy running her diner to be impressed. She has tables to turn, coffee to pour, and absolutely no time for movie stars — until Chad Hart walks through her door and refuses to leave. What follows is the summer Hazel never planned for. Secret late nights. Borrowed cars. A world that glitters just enough to be dangerous. Chad is charming and lonely and more real with her than he's ever been with anyone. And for a little while, she lets herself believe that might be enough. But some people are passing through. And some people were always going to stay. Eli Mercer has been standing in her kitchen since they were twelve years old. He rebuilt the diner with his own hands. He shows up before he's asked and leaves after he's needed and has never once asked for anything in return. Hazel has spent years not looking at him too directly, the way you learned not to look at the sun. She's going to have to look eventually. The One Who Stayed is a story about the love that finds you in the middle of your ordinary life — and the one that was there all along.
