Chapter one
The Woman Behind The Firewall
Elena Moretti had broken into systems that were considered impossible.
Government databases. Military-grade security networks. Criminal empires that believed their secrets were buried deeper than the ocean.
Every system had a weakness.
Every person had a vulnerability.
And Elena had spent her entire life finding both.
The only rule she had ever followed was simple.
Information was power.
And power was never meant to be used to hurt innocent people.
Her fingers moved quickly across the keyboard, the glow of multiple screens reflecting against her glasses as lines of code appeared and disappeared.
The room around her was silent except for the soft hum of computers.
To anyone else, it looked like chaos.
To Elena, it was a language.
A conversation between machines.
"You're going to regret doing this."
Elena didn't look away from her screen.
Her assistant, Maya, stood at the doorway holding two cups of coffee.
"Good morning to you too," Elena replied.
Maya walked closer, staring at the hundreds of files open on the screens.
"Elena... please tell me you are not investigating another dangerous criminal network."
Elena finally glanced at her.
A small smile appeared.
"That depends."
"On what?"
"Whether they are dangerous enough to deserve my attention."
Maya sighed.
"You know normal people wake up and watch the news. You wake up and declare war on international criminals."
"They started it."
"They don't even know you exist."
Elena turned back to the screen.
"Exactly."
The corner of her mouth lifted.
"They should have checked their security."
Maya rolled her eyes.
Then she noticed something.
The smile disappeared.
"Wait."
Elena froze.
"What?"
Maya pointed at the screen.
"That file. How did it get there?"
Elena stared.
She hadn't opened that folder.
She hadn't searched for it.
She hadn't touched it.
But there it was.
A single encrypted file sitting in the middle of her private system.
Impossible.
Elena's expression changed.
Someone had entered her network.
Someone had found her.
She typed quickly, tracing the source.
The encryption was unlike anything she had seen before.
Elegant.
Expensive.
Dangerous.
Her heartbeat slowed.
Not from fear.
From curiosity.
"Who are you?" she whispered.
The file opened.
One sentence appeared on the screen.
I know who you are, Elena Moretti.
Her fingers stopped.
A second line appeared.
And I need your help.
She frowned.
Then the final message loaded.
Dante Vitale.
The name alone carried weight.
Everyone knew it.
The man who controlled half of Italy's underground world.
The ghost nobody could find.
The monster people whispered about.
Elena leaned back.
"Absolutely not."
Maya looked at her.
"Who is it?"
Elena closed the file.
"Someone who thinks he can buy my silence."
"And?"
Elena looked at the dark screen.
A dangerous calm settled over her.
"He picked the wrong woman."
Three hours later, Elena Moretti disappeared.
And the world learned something terrifying.
The woman who could break any firewall...
Had finally met one she couldn't escape.
