MY LITTLE BRAVE HEIRESS
Scarlett sat as she quietly watched her father respond to the caller on the other end of the line. The urgency in his aged ruff voice showed it’s importance.
“Is it done, Michael?” He asked grumpily with a grown filled on his face.
“My apologies Sir Ravenscliffe” he responded in a low failed tone.
Scarlett saw the name Michael on the dial pad as her father attempted to switch off the phone. The name did sound familiar although she couldn’t remember having seen him anywhere in the whole lot cluster of henchmen her father owned.
“Who was that you were talking to just now Father? You called him Michael if I am not mistaken”
she asked as she raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“Since you are getting married soon enough, I figured I would get us a new consigliere.” Old Ravenscliffe responded meaningfully.
“Marriage! way to go, FATHER. I already told you before I am not getting married to that Elmsworth fool” Scarlett let out an outburst.
“Manners dear you can’t go around calling your future husband foolish. I too know his foolish but he is the only one who can meet your standards and take care of you.”
Old Ravensfield replied looking all sorrowful but Scarlett knew better than trust this bipolar man of a father .
“Okay now don’t make that stupid, sad face .You want to make a beautiful bride. Don’t you, my little Dawn.” he said as he patted the space next to him and opened his other arm wide to envelope his daughter in a fatherly embrace.
Scarlett, continued to sillyly pout her lips and put her arms over her chest. Who was she kidding anyways, amidst her childish tantrums she couldn’t let her old man sombre so she just decided to go into his embrace.
“That’s it, good girl. My little, brave heiresss." he praised her and patted her head softly.
‘Thane you rascal, you finally had the guts’ Scarlett thought to herself angrily.
A dark grey cloud loomed over him. He needed to get her daughter under someone’s protection before it was too late .
The Smirkinoff gang would attack him anytime soon and he had to make sure to get a stronger family to marry her daughter into to shield her.
By the looks of it they appeared to be the strongest mafia gang so he decided to marry her off to rather an imperial and noble family.
He knew it was risky marrying a mafia Heiress into nobility but it was worth a shot .He just hoped that the Elmsworth Family could keep their end of the deal.
***********
Thane Elmsworth sat behind the large oak table looking composed and ethereal as an Emperor.
He had fine, sharp alluring features .He looked immersed in his work on the computer screen staring at it through his thinly gold rimmed circular glasses.
His snow white ,shiny hair shining brightly when light passing through the open windowed grazed along it giving it a golden glow which matched his glasses.
He listened to his personal assistant Lionel Naught read to him his schedule.
“In a few days the Annual General meeting shall be held." Lionel stated
“Its too soon, don’t you think?” Thane asked casually seemingly disinterested.
The Annual General meeting was always held in the months nearing the end of the year having it changed to almost Three weeks prior was quite suspicious .
Seemed like someone was using some underhanded tactics .
It seemed that Thane’s suspicions were right because the next words from Lionel affirmed it.
“Some new info.....”
“It’s no longer new if you say it late.” Thane interrupted.
“I beg to be pardoned ,Sir.” Lionel bowed to accompany his words.
He continued, “Mchan has been working with the Smirknoff in the past three months." He said
“I strongly believe there should be a connection to the early arrangement of the meeting .” He finished.
Thane responded with a light hum, his eyes glued to the computer screen and never leaving it as his fingers glided along it with swift movement.
“No wonder they aren’t putting a lot of effort in making connections of late” Thane naturally concluded.
The Mchan were a rookie that just joined the high business industry and would go out of their way to make connections with the top society. Having Smirknoff by their side meant having an ally they could trust .
Besides ,The Smirknoff were involved in under ground dealings so it meant more benefits to Mchan.
“Old Master Elmsworth would also like you back home for dinner. If I am not mistaken he wants to discuss marriage to the Ravensfield Family with you “Lionel reported as the loyal servant he was.
**************
Thane shut down the computer, stood up from his chair, removed his coat from the coat hanger and headed out with Lionel following suit.
**ELMSWORTH MAIN MANSION**
“I assume you already know why I asked for your presence.” Old Elmsworth said in his old, raspy but dignified tone.
He and Thane sat opposite each other being separated by the tea table.
Thane noticed that there were three sets of cutlery. The third person was obviously his mother. She must be hiding somewhere listening to this conversation.
How nosy. She will have a months gossip for her fellow ladies at the spa and tea picnic.
Thane held a teacup and swirled it calmly his eyes fixed intently on the ripples and tiny waves in the marble teacup as he listened to his grandfather.
Ignoring his grandson’s indifference, Old Elmsworth continued.
“You should reach out to young Miss Ravensfield for marriage soon enough. The annual general meeting is getting close and I want you to go in as the next CEO”
“Is it that much needed ?“Thane feigned ignorance popping up an eyebrow and looking puzzled.
“You’d better stop acting foolish with me and oblivious of the obvious young man . If you can’t handle a marriage how am I even supposed to even give you the responsibility of a huge cooperation just like that !!“Old Elmsworth roared and fumed with anger.
“You know she is of the underworld, right?”
Thane said as he elegantly stirred his tea as if the conversation at the table wasn’t a serious one.
“Who cares, THANE ELMSWORTH!! drop the act I know you’ve liked the girl since your childhood. Don’t tell me you feel nothing for her now.“The old guy growled at him looking like he would die of anger.
“Am I supposed to feel anything for her. Tell me grandpa.“he asked smiling sheepishly.
Although Thane was acting indifferent,he new that he still loved Scarlett .
The real issue was if the woman in question loved her .
“Even if you ignore it,you know you have been betrothed to each other by your mother..” The old man said in a genuinely serious tone.
Showing that no matter what, the wedding had to go through.
“I will marry Ravensfield Scarlett. I will take my leave .” Thane said with a stern face and left without another world.
Old Elmsworth was stunned, and was in awe. After a while, a lady walked out of the drawer she was hiding in earlier .
Tiptoeing to the exit checking if there was no one at the door. She seemed to be in her late forties .She wore elegantly and in a reputable manner.
“He finally agreed.” “I always knew he still loved her” the lady said her face filled with glee .
“Constance, How did you know he would agree once I mentioned that lass Scarlett” Elmsworth asked his daughter.
“Isn’t it obvious, he loves her till now.” Constance answered proudly as she folded her skirt and elegantly sat down and held her cup to her lips.
Owing it all to her motherly instinct.
