Chapter 1: Evanora

I was lying on my bed as I heard footsteps pacing in the hallway. I rolled my eyes. “Darius, you’re gonna wear a hole into the floor, and my momma is gonna flip her lid!”

“Shut up, witch! I don’t care if your momma is gonna flip her lid, I’m stronger than her!”

I sat up in bed and opened the door. “You need to fucking chill, your dad would be even more pissed if you laid a hand on my mamma.”

Two things we both can agree on are that we both hate each other and we both respect his dad. That’s it, he doesn’t respect my mamma. I glared daggers at him. He only smirked and leaned against the wall.

“What are you pissed about now, little witch?”

“That you’re a prick and I can’t stand how you treat my momma. I don’t care if you hate me, but she’s been nothing but good to you.”

He growls. “Don’t matter, she is not my blood, and neither are you. So I don’t have to show respect to lesser creatures.”

“Witches are not lesser creatures! We’ve served along with your kind for centuries! Hell, it’s even common for our kind to marry now and have kids.” I scoffed and crossed my arms over my chest.

Darius’ gaze flickered towards my crossed arms and my breasts before he quickly looked away as he grumbled. I glared at him. I could feel my magic boiling in my gut. I wanted to throw a damned fireball at him, but that would only cause more chaos. That’s something I wanted to avoid, at least at home.

Iridescent was coiled up in her terrarium, watching Darius and me bickering about respecting our parents. Her forked tongue flicked out. I could hear the low hiss when her gaze lingered on Darius. She never liked him, and I couldn’t blame her. He was a fucking prick, and he frustrated me so fucking much.

He smirked and stalked towards me like I was just some bimbo blood bag. I took a step back, and he caged me against the wall, his muscular arms pinned on either side of my head. His eyes darkened.

“Evanora, who did our parents leave in charge? You or me?”

“Y-you… but that’s only because you’re older than me, but you don’t fucking act like it!”

“Yeah? Well, you act like a spoiled brat, but you don’t see me complaining, do you?”

I huffed and pushed him in the chest, but he didn’t budge. He chuckled and pulled away from the wall. He flipped me off and walked out of my room. My breathing evened out, and I flopped back down on my bed.

“Why is he so fucking difficult?”

Iridescent slithered towards the front of her terrarium and watched me.

“Its infuriating and I fucking hate him…” I rolled over to face the wall and sighed. “I don’t know how his dad is so nice while he’s basically the spawn of Satan.”

I leave my room to go cook myself dinner. Of course Who’s currently in the fucking kitchen sucking on a blood bag? Darius… Why does he keep popping up everywhere? Normally, he’s in his room gaming or whatever the hell else he does up there. His gaze locked with mine, and I turned away from him to rummage in the fridge. I pulled out some already-cut fruit. I didn’t wanna stay any longer than necessary in the same room with him.

I could feel his eyes lingering on me. I whipped around. “What?”

“Nothing.” He takes a long sip of his blood bag.

“Stop staring at me, creep, gods your fucking weird…”

He scoffed. “I’m no such thing.” He circled me like a predator sizing up their prey. “Call me that again, brat, and see what happens.”

“C-r-e-e-p. Creep!”I rolled my eyes and tried to walk past him.

He grabs my wrist in a brushing grasp. “You think I’m the creep?” He pulled me into his chest with a softthud. He smirked and leaned towards my face so our eyes were leveled to each other. “Why, because I look at you, don’t fucking flatter yourself, Evanora.”

I could feel the heat of his breath that smelled slightly of blood. “Yeah, your eyes fucking linger.”

“Do they? I never noticed.” He purred. “Why, it’s not like were related.”

“Ew, no! It’s still weird!”

I almost gagged at the thought. What the fuck was wrong with him? I shivered and backed away from him. I wanted to throw up. I wanted to lock myself in my room until Momma and my stepdad got back from their getaway. He stalked towards me until my back hit against the wall opposite the archway into the kitchen.

“Stop! Get the fuck away from me!”

He slowed down with a smirk. “Fine, but if you change your mind, little lamb, you know where to find me. Just down the hall from your bedroom.” He tosses the now-empty blood bag into the trash on his way out and up the stairs. Since he was gone, I went to the living room and shoved cut-up pieces of musk melon in my mouth while I watched some terrible reality show about romance. I just needed some background noise. I wasn’t paying too much attention to what was playing out on the screen.

When I finished my bowl of musk melon, I washed my dishes and headed back up the staircase. I walked down the short hallway to my bedroom. I stopped in my doorway and turned back towards the direction I came. Darius’ door was cracked open a little. I could hear his game playing and see the blue light of his computer monitor flashing while he was playing whatever shooter game he was into now.

“Yeah, she’s hot as fuck ya know, just wish she’d let me tap that though.” He laughed, and I could hear his friends follow suit.

“Weirdos…” I muttered and closed my bedroom door behind me.
