Author’s Note/Book Warning
This is my first time writing a Western-style story, and while I'm not a historian, I've done a lot of research to try and make the world feel authentic. That said, some elements—like the slang, tools, or weapons—might not be spot-on for the exact time period. I've taken a few creative liberties here and there to serve the story, including shifting timelines for things like the invention of blue jeans. My goal isn't perfect historical accuracy, but rather a version of the past that feels real enough to get lost in.
The romance in this story develops quickly, and that's intentional. Back then, people often got married soon after meeting—sometimes through matchmaking agencies, where they barely knew anything about their future spouse. It was a different time with very different norms, so while the relationship might move fast by today's standards, it fits the historical context. I just ask that readers keep that in mind and understand why the characters connect the way they do.
This story is set after the Civil War, and the main character is from a Confederate state. I want to be absolutely clear: I do not support or glorify the Confederacy, and I don't romanticize war. Including this backdrop is about the story, not about endorsing those views. You won't find any racial or derogatory slurs in this book—I believe in treating sensitive topics with care and respect. I fully acknowledge the injustices faced by African American and Native American communities during this era, and I'm doing my best to approach that reality thoughtfully and without causing harm. If that subject matter doesn't align with your preferences, I completely understand.
Lastly, I don't have a personal editor—it's just me doing the writing, revising, and proofreading. I do use AI tools to help review and polish my work, so if you spot a typo or something that slips through, feel free to gently point it out.
Thank you so much for reading. I hope this story sweeps you off into another time and place, and I'm so grateful for your support.
