First Encounter
He came all the way from America to visit this place in specific, that was in Japan. Sure, Japan is a great place, but he doesn't prefer to walk on the Shibuya Crossing like most people do.
He's more into abandoned places. Why? He finds comfort in them and finds them more interesting. This one in particular, a library that was about to get demolished. "Demolished" being the keyword. Most of the stuff were still in place. However, there were a lot of securities outside, so he had to be quiet. One of the things he sucks at. He could either leave and explore this place back when it is midnight, or he could either continue risking it.
Asher, being the dumbass he is, continued walking around the room.
Holy shit, this place was huge: Several bookshelves all around the room, hundreds of dusty books still inside them. The place had little to no light, making them look more dustier.
Only two tables remained, the others were probably taken away already. No chairs, though.
The building seemed still intact. Except for the broken windows.
There was no way they were going to demolish all these books, right?
He walked up to one of the shelves. The shelves were much, much taller than he was. He grabbed one of the books and flashed his flashlight over it, since it was dark outside, the time being 8pm.
He didn't know much about books, but he thought this one was about history, and so were the other books on the shelf. He put it back to its place and gave another look at the shelf.<
They, the books, were all really dusty, which meant many other people were here before he was. It's a miracle that these books were still here and not stolen.
He walked away from the shelf and started walking towards a big table with chairs surrounded around it that was in the middle of the room. He was going to sit and drink some water. Yeah, he couldn't drink water without sitting somewhere first. It had become a habit to him. While he was walking towards the table, he accidentally stepped on broken glass that was on the floor. But that shouldn't be a problem. Last time he checked, all the security were outside and he didn't hear any noise inside here too.
Once he got at the table, he blew the amount of dust on it and sat on the table. He grabbed his water bottle, opened the cap and drank from it. But when he looked back down again, he made eye contact with a security that was standing there, in the doorway. Guess it was time to run already.
Without a single word, he quickly put his water bottle back in his backpack before rushing towards the broken window that was nearby. Some other people must've broken it before. He grabbed onto the edge of the roof, hoisting himself up. Once he was on the rooftop, he immediately started running, jumping from one building to another—the gaps between them were small enough—until he was finally on solid ground.
He rested against a wall and put his hands on his knees, panting. He got a bit scared, feeling his heart thumping in his chest from the events, but that was not going to stop him from coming back in an hour or so.
Indeed, he was back and had explored many rooms (the library didn't have much rooms anyway. Why would it?). However, due to him being mostly loud by accident (his shoes making a lot of noise and dropping stuff by accident mostly), the security had found out about him being inside. They were still on high alarm since the last time he came here. He really should have been more careful. Asher thought that the only thing they would do was chase after his ass. If only he didn't hear police sirens after 5 minutes. Though, he's been through shit like this before. He could get out. Sadly, he had to hide first. He cursed under his breath and ducked into a restroom, forcing himself into a cramped maintenance cabinet behind a door left slightly open. He grimaced by the smell that had spread inside this room and hoped that he didn't vomit.
By the sounds of it, there were probably about 5 people looking for him right now. He could either surrender, try to outrun them, or maybe wait for a little longer. They probably didn't think that he was hiding in such a place that smells like a corpse, right?
After about 5 minutes, he heard the noises getting lower and lower. It was his turn. With a shaky sigh, he quickly got out of his hiding place and started rushing towards his planned escape route without looking back. If he did so, he might shit his pants.
The cops and security were on him in an instant, but they weren't as fast as him. He managed to get out of the building, but he had a long ass jump to make to get on solid ground again. He risked it and did so anyway, because it surely was better than being behind iron bars for a month. He grunted and rolled over to lower the impact and managed to not hurt himself. He continued running, turning a lot of corners. That is until someone who was not a cop or a security yelled at him from a doorway of a building, were they helping him? He quickly ran toward them. Once he got in, the person closed and locked the door behind them.
Asher was panting heavily as he leaned against the wall. The other person, they were most likely Japanese, watched him with an unreadable expression.
Asher inspected him for a while. Messy dark hair, some strands falling in front of his eyes, almost as if he was trying to hide his tired-looking dark brown eyes.
After a few seconds, Asher managed to speak.
"Damn... Thank you. I was about to get cooked."
"You were pretty reckless." Said the person, with an unreadable expression on their face.
Asher tilted his head, smirking at them softly.
"Do you always help criminals out?"
They crossed their arms.
"Criminals don't usually carry cameras."
After that, they both heard a noise outside. They were not done chasing after him. The person tilted their head slightly.
"…They're circling back."
Asher looked back at them after staring outside the window.
"So what now?"
The person stayed still for a second, then walked past Asher. Asher watched as they walked away.
"Hey- wait, where are you heading to?"
The person didn't stop.
"Leading you the way out."
Asher hesitated, but started following them anyway. The both of them moved through the empty building. Asher looked around.
There was nothing inside by the looks of it. Just... empty. Asher frowned.
"Why are you even here?"
The person finally glanced back at him. "It's quiet." And then, a door ahead opened into a narrow maintenance stairwell. The person stepped aside.
"Go. It's safer this way. If you go down two blocks, there's a station. Don't run in straight lines."
Without waiting for a response, the person had already turned round and started walking away. Asher didn't want to bother them, so he reluctantly stepped into the stairwell. He slipped inside.
The door closed behind him.
