Chapter 1
I woke up at midnight; the air felt lighter.
I heard something calling me, and I couldn't resist the call. I started to walk in a mechanical way, following the voice until I saw a green light. Then, I smelled a sulfuric and sweet aroma, and my mouth filled with an unknown flavor that somehow I recognized as the ether in the air.
I continued walking toward the light; the smell became deeper. I found that the light was coming from a little lilac lake.
I entered and sank immediately. However, water didn't enter my lungs. The ether smell became stronger.
I the center of some rocks, I could see a little jewel box. Once I took it, the light disappeared and the air became dense. The lake disappeared, leaving me in a hole.
I Tried to get out of the dry lake for a long time. I got cold and the sky started to grow dark.
I opened the jewelry box; I couldn’t help myself and put the ring on my finger. Suddenly, I was back home. I removed the ring and put it on again, but nothing happened this time
Is stayed awake all night, trying to use the ring, trying to make magic happen, but I didn’t succeed.
In the morning, I went to visit my friend Marianne; she owns a magic object store. Maybe if the ring didn't work, I could sell it and get some money."
"It's not really powerful, but it belongs to the Whitewood clan. However, I think the main thing here is that you received the call of magic and you should respond. You should go to the capital; there, you can look for a magic guild that could teach you," she said, looking at me with a smile.
She was really happy for me; I could see that.
"I don't know, it's pretty far," I said with a little shame.
"Come on! My cousin Eliot is going there soon. You can leave with him tomorrow; I’m sure he won't mind."
It was a hard night deciding whether to leave everything behind and cross the country to the capital. But finally, I decided to go.
I arrived at the road, and the view was breathtaking. There were pastel-colored trees, a blue paved road, and so many butterflies.
Then, I saw him. Black hair, tan skin, and two big blue eyes. He was the most handsome man I had ever seen. I felt the blood rush to my face.
"Hi, my name is Julia," I said.
"I'm Eliot, and you're turning all red," he said with a joking smile that annoyed me—not only because he was really insensitive, but because it made him look even more handsome.
