The Story of Maya

It was around 8:30 in the morning.

Maya stood at the bus stand and looked around. People were everywhere. Some were rushing to work, some were waiting for buses, and others were busy talking on their phones.

Everyone seemed to know where they were going.

Maya did not.

She quietly watched the crowd.

Why is everyone in such a hurry?

Why does nobody have time to look around?

These questions filled her mind.

For most of her life, Maya had lived in her own small world. Standing alone in the middle of such a large crowd felt strange.

She looked at the people waiting near the bus stop. Many of them seemed confident. Maya wished she could be like them.

Today was her first day of college.

She wanted to ask someone which bus would take her to the Psychology Department of her college.

But she could not.

What if they ignored her?

What if she asked the wrong question?

A girl standing nearby was talking about the same college. Maya thought about asking her for help.

She thought about it.

And thought about it again.

But before she could gather the courage, the girl left.

Maya sighed.

Now she was alone again.

Just then, she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder.

She quickly turned around.

A girl stood behind her with a bright smile.

Maya had never seen her before.

"Are you going to Green Valley College?" the girl asked.

Maya nodded.

"Me too! I'm Rima."

For the first time that morning, Maya felt a little less nervous.

Soon, they got on the same bus.

Rima talked about many things during the journey. She seemed cheerful and friendly.

But Maya barely listened.

Her mind was busy with other thoughts.

What will college be like?

Will I fit in?

Will I be able to make friends?

When the college stop finally arrived, both girls got down from the bus.

Without saying much, Maya quickly walked ahead and entered the college campus.

She wanted to avoid any awkward conversation.

After walking for a few minutes, she suddenly stopped.

A thought hit her.

She looked around.

Students were walking in every direction.

Tall buildings stood in front of her.

Then she realized something.

She had left the only person who knew where to go.

Maya did not know where her classroom was.

And she had no idea whom to ask.
